Among the many recipients of the aid, there was one family that made Nikita Mirzani cry, touched by the heartbreaking story of their lives.

1. Moving to the Capital

Nikita Mirzani stopped by to chat with a mother who turned out to be a newcomer from Cirebon. The mother came with her husband and two children, aged 8 and 6, to migrate to the capital in search of a better life.

For 4 years, they have been sleeping on the side of the road with only cardboard as their bedding. Despite the long duration, the family has never been caught in a raid because they always come when all the shops are closed.

2. Daily Life

The mother and her family live modestly amidst the harshness of life in the capital. During the day, when the shops are open, they take shelter by the train tracks if they are not collecting scrap. When they don't have extra money, they are forced to bathe in the river.

They don't have many belongings in this new place, especially after Jakarta was hit by a flood recently. The mother admits that the clothes they wear are donations from others. When it comes to cooking, the mother will make a stove out of firewood.

3. Family in the Village

From their work scavenging for scrap, the mother admits that she can earn between 15,000 to 50,000 rupiah per day. From that income, around 300,000 rupiah per month is set aside to be sent to their hometown where their other two children are.

This family's situation has become even more difficult during the coronavirus pandemic, as there is no one buying the scrap they obtain. Nevertheless, the mother and family choose to stay in the city and not return home due to economic reasons.

4. Lesson for Niki

The story of the mother and her family living on the roadside provides a valuable lesson for Nikita Mirzani. Reflecting on the mother who always remains optimistic, lives life as it is, doesn't beg, and always remains patient, serves as a reminder for Niki not to complain.

Initially, Niki planned to distribute groceries to the mother but instead provided assistance in the form of a sum of money that could be used to buy daily necessities. Niki hopes that this family can have a better life in the future.
