Shooting in a Grave with the Body Wrapped in a Shroud, Deva Mahenra is Grateful Not to Have Claustrophobia

Kapanlagi.com - Actor Deva Mahenra was chosen as the main character in the film KISAH TANAH JAWA: POCONG GUNDUL. In this horror adaptation of the same titled novel, Deva plays a character named Hao who has retrocognition abilities.

In one scene, Deva is required to be in a grave with his body wrapped in a shroud like a pocong. During the filming process, he tries not to empty his mind and be carried away by fear of unwanted things happening.

"During the shooting process, I maintain interaction with people around me. I don't want to be empty and carried away (in my mind). Acting anywhere, the emotions should be honest but the situation is fake. So I try to be aware that the situation is fake even though there are moments of silence while waiting for takes," said Deva when met at Epicentrum XXI, Rasuna Said area, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (13/9/2023).

1. Digging a Real Hole

In a condition where his body was wrapped in a shroud, Deva Mahenra is grateful that he does not suffer from claustrophobia or fear of confined spaces. Because it would surely be difficult.

"Fortunately, I don't have claustrophobia because the grave hole was specially prepared for me. It was dug in such a way in the cemetery ground while I was being wrapped in a shroud," said Deva.

2. Buried with Real Soil

In the scene, there is a situation where Deva Mahenra is buried alive in the ground. Initially, the production team used fake soil made from coffee and chocolate powder. However, because the fake soil looked obvious, they eventually opted for real soil.

"Initially, they provided artificial soil, but after being on set, it turned out that the emotional impact would be greater if real soil was used. So, they ended up using the real soil that was there. I was also pelted with small stones as a bonus," concluded Deva.
