SM Announces Sungchan and Shotaro Leaving NCT, Will Join New Boygroup

On Wednesday (May 24, 2023), SM announced that Sungchan and Shotaro will leave NCT and join a new group that is predicted to debut this year. Below is the complete statement from SM regarding Sungchan and Shotaro's departure from the group.

First of all, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the fans who have loved and supported NCT. Below is our announcement to inform about the future plans for Sungchan and Shotaro.

As members of NCT, Sungchan and Shotaro have already given impressive performances. However, they will be closing the chapter with NCT and will debut in a new boy group that will come out in 2023. We convey our deep apologies and appreciation to the fans who have supported and patiently waited for them to debut as part of the new NCT group.

After careful discussions and considerations with Sungchan and Shotaro in preparation for SM 3.0, we have come to the best decision for the artists' thoughts and also for the artistic and musical direction of each group. We ask for understanding and support for Sungchan and Shotaro who will start a new chapter.

The newest NCT group will be the final group to be part of NCT's unlimited expansion, so we want to release one group with a sharp vision and will truly represent regional identity. In line with this, we will add Japanese members, show new members, and share their debut journey with fans.
