Smooth Ramadan, Olla Ramlan Reveals Her Children's Fasting Habits Without Rewards

This year’s Ramadan is a special moment for Olla Ramlan, a 45-year-old woman who is also a mother of three. Olla shared her fasting experience with her children. She feels grateful that Ramadan is going smoothly despite a few minor challenges at the beginning.

"Yes, smoothly. Alhamdulillah Sean hasn’t... hasn’t missed a day," said Olla when met in the Kapten Tendean area, Mampang, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (11/3/2025).

However, she mentioned that she was unable to fast fully at the beginning of Ramadan. "For me, I was on my period at the start of fasting. So, I could only do it part-time," added the former wife of Aufar Hutapea.

Olla also emphasized that she never gives rewards to her children for fasting. For her, the habit of fasting should be instilled without the promise of gifts from an early age.

"Coincidentally, I do not train my children to expect rewards like that. And they have indeed been fasting since, Alhamdulillah, the age of seven," she revealed.

"Basically, if I can spend time with the kids, then we do it together. So there's nothing complicated, everything is made the same," explained Olla.

As a single mother, Olla admits she is used to managing her time between work and family. She hopes her children understand their mother's responsibility to work for the family.

"It's okay, that's already the consequence of being a single mother. So there has to be a friend too. And he also understands that his mother is focused on work," she said.

In addition to discussing fasting, Olla also shares stories about her favorite menu for breaking the fast. She admits she prefers light snacks like fruit ice. "I don't have anything else, just fruit ice, yeah just fruit ice," she said.

However, her son, Sean Mikael Alexander, has different tastes. The teenager prefers fried foods, especially fried tempeh, as his iftar menu. "Fried foods for Sean," Olla said with a smile. Sean added, "Yes, fried tempeh is delicious."

For Olla, Ramadan is not just about food, but also about meaningful moments together with the children amidst the busyness.
