However, the appearance that became a trademark of Edric Tjandra did not always receive positive responses from the public. In an interview with Bunda Dona Show uploaded on Tuesday (31/03), Edric revealed that he had received criticism from the audience when performing with Nycta Gina.
The audience felt that the character portrayed by Edric Tjandra was demeaning towards Chinese people. In their anger, the audience even pointed fingers and almost slapped Edric Tjandra backstage.

To clarify the issue, Edric Tjandra admitted that he had no ill intentions when appearing as a Chinese person. On the contrary, he takes pride in being able to portray that character to the public.
"I chose to do it because of being Chinese, I just wanted to showcase the Chinese culture. Traditional Chinese. Since I am of Chinese descent, I wanted to promote it," said Edric Tjandra.
Despite the criticism he received at the beginning of his career, Edric Tjandra views that experience as something positive and helpful in his career journey. His distinctive appearance has always been remembered by the public from then until now.
"But I turned it into a stepping stone, so people know me, no one knew me before," added Edric Tjandra.
