Still Married, Venna Melinda and Ferry Irawan Must File a New Divorce Petition if They Want to Marry Someone Else

Venna Melinda and Ferry Irawan are still legally bound as husband and wife, even though both have previously filed for divorce. The South Jakarta Religious Court confirmed that the divorce petition filed by Ferry Irawan has been dismissed, thus their marriage status remains valid.

Taslimah, the spokesperson for the South Jakarta Religious Court, explained that Venna and Ferry must file a new divorce petition if they wish to change their marital status. "It must be repeated," said Taslimah in her office on Monday (19/8/2024).

"A new case must be filed, file a new case," Taslimah continued. This means that the divorce proceedings must start from the beginning if they plan to continue the divorce process.

Venna Melinda herself has expressed her desire to file for divorce in a television program. However, she has not provided details regarding when her intention will be carried out.

Until the divorce petition is newly filed and processed, Venna and Ferry's status remains as husband and wife according to the law. "Legally still husband and wife. Because the case has been dropped," Taslimah explained.

This means that both of them are still unable to marry someone else, as their marriage status has not fully ended. To legally continue a new relationship, they must first complete the divorce process legally.

Taslimah added that Venna and Ferry have been notified of the decision and summoned for the divorce declaration. However, if the declaration is not made within six months, the divorce case is considered null and void.

"There has been a notification of the decision's content and a summons for the declaration. When summoned for the declaration, there was an explanation that if the declaration is not used, then within six months the case will be dismissed," said Taslimah.

In other words, the failure to continue the process of the divorce declaration within the specified time results in the dismissal of the divorce case, and the marriage status remains valid. Therefore, Venna and Ferry must restart the legal process if they wish to renew their status legally.
