Success Makes a Scene at Jicomfest 2023 Stage, Marshel Widianto Admits Learning English from Hot Movies

In his performance, Marshel Widianto was required to perform in English even though he himself is not fluent.

But funny enough, Marshel still tried to deliver his jokes in English. As a result, the entire audience couldn't hold back their laughter.

"Good evening Jicomfest. I entered the International stand-up comedian session. I will do stand-up in English," Marshel Widianto said to start his action on the Jicomfest 2023 stage.

"I can't speak English, so I just use Indonesian," he continued.

After that, Marshel Widianto shared that he has never been able to speak English for a long time. In fact, he has a funny story from his past experience because he couldn't speak English.

"So before becoming a comedian, I used to be a motorcycle taxi driver in Kota Tua. Then I got a foreign passenger, but I could only say three words in English: 'yes, no, and let's go,'" he said.

2. Remembering Father's Message

"Then the foreign tourist asked to be taken to Grogol. I answered 'yes.' But when he asked about the price, I didn't understand what to say, so it became unclear. I just answered 'no' and 'let's go.' The foreigner was confused," he added.

Because of that experience, Marshel Widianto realized that he had to learn English. He remembered his father's message to learn English from what he liked.

"My father once said 'learn from what you like.' Well, because I like blue films, I ended up learning English from there," he concluded.
