Suffering from Pinched Nerves, Hanung Bramantyo Reveals Why He Chose Surgery as the Path to Recovery

When met at Plaza Senayan, South Jakarta, on Thursday afternoon (1/20), Hanung Bramatyo finally explained his reasons for choosing surgery to recover. He chose this method because all non-medical therapies and treatments could not heal his pinched nerve.

"I decided to have surgery because there was already a rupture in my neck. It's like eating a burger and the meat comes out, and my neck touches my nerve," said Hanung Bramantyo.

"The doctor said it's not dangerous. The doctor said Mr. Hanung won't die haha, but his activities will be disrupted. If you want it all to disappear, surgery is the only option," he continued.

1. Stop Taking Pain Relief Medications

Hanung also admitted that he no longer wants to consume medication to relieve the pain in his neck. Moreover, the long-term effects of the medication will affect the stomach, and this reminded Hanung Bramantyo of his late father who also experienced complications in the stomach.

"The second reason is taking medication, pain killers only manage the pain, not eliminate the cause. If you take medication, it affects the stomach. Well, I remember my father had stomach problems and it eventually became more complicated, so I decided to have surgery," he said.

2. Risk of Failed Surgery

In addition, Hanung emphasized that undergoing surgery to recover from his illness is his own decision. He also mentioned that the risk of a failed operation is low.

"This is my personal decision, and the doctor is not playing around, if I want to, it's okay. According to the doctor, there is only a 94 percent chance of success, which means there is a small chance of failure," he said.

3. Early Symptoms of Illness

Hanung also described the initial symptoms of his illness. He also mentioned that his illness initially healed, but because he was not careful, the illness recurred.

"Because I often type and use my phone, suddenly my hands become numb. This made me panic and eventually I went to the doctor who suggested an MRI, but it was expensive, so I had an X-ray instead, although it was not as detailed as an MRI," said Hanung Bramantyo.

"Then based on the X-ray results, I followed the recommendation, used a polar neck, and it healed. But because I was too active, I started exercising improperly and the illness recurred," he continued.

4. Illness Recurred

In addition, Hanung mentioned that he has been suffering from a pinched nerve for the past four years. However, when he finished his diet, the illness recurred again.

"I've been experiencing this pain for 4 years. When I was filming HABIBI AINUN 3, I already used a polar neck. But when I finished my diet and lost weight, it recurred again," he said.

5. Making Wife Worried

Certainly, Zaskia Adya Mecca is worried about her husband's safety during the operation. However, after knowing all the safe procedures, Zaskia can breathe a sigh of relief. She also believes that the surgical route is indeed the best for her husband's recovery.

"Initially, I panicked and protested because many people said that there were many failed cases in surgery, but that's an old procedure. Nowadays, it's not like that," said Zaskia Adya Mecca.

"I'm still worried because there was a significant tear in Mas Hanung's neck during the operation, but after the surgery, it turned out that this was the right decision for Mas Hanung," she added.
