Synopsis of the Anime Made in Abyss Pre Orth Arc, Challenging Danger to Find Mother

1. Synopsis

Riko receives a message from Lyza stating that her mother is waiting at the bottom of the Abyss, accompanied by her White Whistle.

Driven by this ambition, Riko and Reg secretly enter the Abyss despite being forbidden due to the dangers of the Abyss Curse that strikes when ascending to the surface. They begin their descent into increasingly deep and deadly layers.

In the First Layer (Edge of the Abyss), Riko and Reg face fierce creatures like the Crimson Splitjaw while collecting simple relics.

Reg uses his Incinerator weapon to survive, but Riko often acts carelessly due to her enthusiasm. They meet Nat and Rocky, two other orphanage kids who are envious but eventually support Riko's adventure.

Heading to the Second Layer (Forest of Temptation), the pair navigates through dense forest terrain full of natural traps and monsters like Madokajack.

The curse begins to feel lighter as they ascend the trials, causing nausea, but they manage to reach the Inverted Forest with the help of Riko's childhood memories. Reg begins to suspect his own origins from the Abyss.

In the Third Layer (Great Fault), a massive vertical chasm filled with dangerous caves and tunnels, they encounter Hablog, the gatekeeper who tests delvers.

2. Tamaugachi Attack

The adventure becomes increasingly extreme with attacks from creatures like Tamaugachi and the risk of falling into darkness. Riko discovers clues about her father and a dangerous relic mission like the Unheard Bell.

The Third Layer's curse causes hallucinations and bleeding while trying to ascend, forcing them to continue descending. Flashbacks reveal Riko's birth in the depths of the Abyss thanks to her father's Curse-Repelling Vessel, who died shortly after. This strengthens Riko's determination to reach the bottom.

3. Deadly Predator

Approaching the end of the Pre-Orth Arc towards the Fourth Layer (Goblet of Giants), they encounter a giant water biome filled with plants and deadly predators.

The Fifth Layer (Sea of Corpses) is referred to as the White Whistle territory, with vast underground oceans. This arc culminates in a separation from the upper world as they enter unknown territory.

Riko and Reg's adventure is filled with dark elements, from potential loss of limbs to emotional sacrifices. The Pre-Orth Arc builds the mystery of the Abyss as a place of valuable yet deadly artifacts, with Orth as the center for relic traders. This arc ends on the brink of significant change before the next arc.
