Teaching Children to Fast, Iko Uwais Refuses to Give Rewards

“Oh yes, definitely, when it comes to religion from an early age,” said Iko Uwais in the Senayan area, Central Jakarta not long ago.

1. Not Required to Fast Full

However, Iko Uwais never forces his child to fast all day. The most important thing is that his children understand the meaning of fasting and Eid celebration. The star of THE RAID movie also said that his eldest child, Atreya Syahla Putri Uwais, already understands enough.

"Even though it's not a full day of fasting, at least they know that every month of Ramadan we have a celebration, we fast, and we have Eid. The older one understands, the second one doesn't," he explained.

2. Not Willing to Give Rewards

While many parents give rewards to their children who fast, Iko Uwais and his wife Audy do not. They teach their children that fasting is an obligation, not for the sake of rewards.

"I'm afraid that if they get used to being given incentives, they will become dependent on it. In Betawi culture, it's called 'tuman', a habit. I teach them to be sincere from an early age, to be a Muslim because it's their religion, not because of rewards," Iko Uwais concluded.
