However, the corrupt justice system and the high conviction rate in Japan (99.9%) gradually erode his idealism. His turning point occurs when a client he believes is innocent is still found guilty, which triggers his anger and disappointment, as well as awakening his curse techniques.

Higuruma's inherent curse technique is "Deadly Sentencing" (死刑宣告, Chūku Shishi), which allows him to manifest a hammer that can change shape and deliver a verdict to anyone within his Domain Expansion. His Domain Expansion, also called "Deadly Sentencing", creates a courtroom where violence is prohibited and the target is forced to undergo a trial.
