The Figure of Apriyani Rahayu, Badminton Player and Gold Medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Who Sold Vegetables as a Child to Earn Pocket Money

A proud achievement has just been given by Apriyani Rahayu and her partner in women's doubles, Greysia Polii. They brought home Indonesia's first gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Monday (2/8/2021).

Now let's get to know a little about the woman from Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi, who has been playing badminton since she was a child.

When she was little, the woman commonly known as Ani often played badminton with her neighbors. Her racket was made of wood by her father, who works as a civil servant and farmer. Badminton has been her hobby since she was young.

When she was little, Ani also often sold vegetables that grew behind her house for one thousand rupiah for her pocket money. From a young age, she was always full of spirit and determination.

When she was sent to Jakarta to compete, Ani was always accompanied by her late mother. Although a little reluctant to let go of her daughter, Ani finally joined the badminton club Milin Icuk Sugiarto in 2011.

It was at that club level that Apriyani's potential to play in doubles events began to be seen, both in women's doubles and mixed doubles. She admitted that she was underestimated because of her short stature.

Apriyani changed partners several times, starting from Rosyita Eka Putri Sari to her senior, Greysia Polii, in 2017.

Since then, Apriyani and Greysia have become one of the world's recognized women's doubles. They have won several championships and finally won the gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

In her daily life, Apriyani is a tomboyish woman with very short hair. She is also close to other badminton players both from within and outside the country.
