Tommy Kurniawan Didn't Give Up Cycling Despite Breaking His Leg

Kapanlagi.com - Tommy Kurniawan had an unpleasant memory with a bicycle. He once had an accident that resulted in a broken leg.

"When I was a kid, I used to play BMX because I lived in a village with a lot of land that could be used for BMX, going up and down and everything. Because I was so into cycling, I started racing until it eventually caused my leg to break," Tommy Kurniawan recalled during the Healthy Cycling Event with Garda Bangsa and 15 Fun Bike Communities, Sunday, July 26, 2020.

1. One Leg Longer

The accident he experienced still leaves a mark until now. The broken bone Tommy Kurniawan suffered from the accident made one of his legs longer.

"My leg got caught between the tire and the stem, so until now one of my legs is longer. That's my childhood memory, being naughty," he said.

2. Not Giving Up Cycling

Nevertheless, Tommy, who is now serving as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Commission VI from the National Awakening Party faction, is not giving up cycling. He considers cycling as a regular sport besides running.

"Now because I'm overweight, I switched to cycling but I still love running more than cycling. Usually, I cycle at GBK most often in the afternoon. But I also like to go around, sometimes in BSD, UI, Lembang, planning to go to Magelang in two weeks," he said.

3. Conduct Health Campaign

As a cycling enthusiast and also the General Chairman of DKN Garda Bangsa, Tommy is currently conducting a health campaign titled Fun Bike to Nation. He hopes that through this campaign, he can encourage people to enjoy exercising.

"Cycling is just a trigger for our main goal, which is how people nowadays can maintain their health during this pandemic, so that our immune system can be better," he said.
