Warkopi Commercializes Resemblance to Warkop DKI Members Without Permission, Here's Indro and the Children's Response

Kapanlagi.com - In recent times, three young men who are members of Warkopi have been in the public spotlight. The reason is that their appearance resembles the personnel of Warkop DKI.

This resemblance has become a controversy. The Intellectual Property Rights (HaKI) of Warkop DKI are owned by the Warkop DKI Institution, which consists of the children of Indro and the late Dono and Kasino.

Warkopi is considered unethical because they identify themselves with the legendary comedy group without permission. They even intentionally accept offers to appear on TV despite being advised to stop.

"I want to talk about ethics. I don't have a problem with the resemblance, there are many people who resemble us but they are luckier. The problem is when we have a well-known and legally protected group, and then they imitate Dono Kasino Indro and express themselves as if they are us, that's the problem," said Indro during a virtual conference on Monday (20/9/2021).

1. Strong Reprimand From Falcon Pictures

Considering that the Intellectual Property Rights of Warkop DKI are held by the Warkop DKI Institution, what Warkopi has done is clearly a form of legal violation. Especially without prior permission. Moreover, now that it has gone viral, it is considered as if it is leading the public not to make it an issue. "If we are not protected by Intellectual Property Rights, it may be fine. But they are breaking the law. They are acting as if they are our group. There is evidence of them acting as if they are us. Now they are appearing (on television), and it is as if we are asked to approve," said Indro. Although it violates and causes intangible losses due to the strong reprimand from Falcon Pictures, which has exclusive rights to the Warkop DKI characters, both Indro and the Warkop DKI Institution are not willing to talk about the law. They are still waiting for goodwill from the Warkopi party. "The Warkop DKI Institution doesn't think about material losses. We truly see it as the loss of the respect we have, the etiquette," said Hanna Sukmaningsih, the daughter of the late Kasino. "If it is an intangible loss, we get a bad reputation from Falcon. Why? Because we collaborated with Falcon and we couldn't protect what we have sold, while others are also selling. We were reprimanded. We have always tried to abide by the agreement in the right way. When we received a strong reprimand, it was a big loss for us," Hanna concluded.  

2. Once Commented on Social Media

Before the virtual conference was held, Indro had already spoken out about these three men who resemble Warkop DKI. Starting from going viral, Indro Warkop immediately commented on one of the posts on the Warkop DKI fans' Instagram account. In it, he mentioned that what the three men who resemble Warkop did was not right because there was no permission from the Warkop institution.

"If you are truly genuine fans or admirers of Warkop, you should know the MORAL of Warkop DKI... and you should be offended by someone who without any ethics coordinatedly claims to just resemble Warkop... without any consideration for the person (who is being resembled)," he wrote in the comments section of the @warkopdkinostalgia_fc account.
