When Still Identified as Female, Aprilia Santini Manganang Was Apparently Bullied and Treated Badly

Kapanlagi.com - Former Indonesian women's volleyball athlete, Aprilia Santini Manganang, has officially changed her gender status legally and medically on Friday (19/3). She underwent a virtual court hearing to determine the change of name and gender status at the Tondano District Court, Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi.

After being raised as a woman for 28 years, today she officially adopts the name Aprilio Perkasa Manganang. Known as Lanang, she expressed great happiness and no longer feels burdened as she finally obtained the identity she desired.

1. Waiting for 28 Years

"Today is the day I have been waiting for for 28 years, I have experienced many trials from my previous status. So today I am very happy and all the burdens are gone," said Aprilio Perkasa Manganang when met at the Headquarters of the Indonesian Army, Central Jakarta, Friday (19/3).

He experienced a lot when he was still identified as a female. Starting from being treated badly to being bullied, Lanang admitted that he always withdrew from social life and spent a lot of time alone.

2. Often Treated Badly

"At that time, I was always bullied and treated badly, and that made me 'I have to be alone' so I spent more time alone," he said.

Nevertheless, especially when the request to change his gender identity from female to male was granted, Lanang admitted that he received a lot of support. When his gender status was officially changed, Lanang also mentioned that he would not have difficulty adjusting himself.

3. More Useful

"Thank God, until now positive, I am very grateful, this is my path. In the past, because of my ignorance, so I went through it when called by Mr. (Andika Perkasa) I am very grateful," she said.

"In the future, I will definitely be a more useful person, but of course I need a transition from being a woman to being a man, but it's okay because I am a brave person," she concluded.
