Yosi Admits to Often Laughing Alone While Creating Project Pop Songs

Behind the humorous and catchy songs of Project Pop, Yosi Mokalu actually has a creative process that is equally entertaining. The member known for creating many Project Pop songs admits to often laughing with his colleague during the songwriting process in the studio.

Yosi says he almost always discusses with musician Irwan Simanjuntak when composing new songs. From that process, often unique ideas emerge that make both of them unable to hold back their laughter.

"Quite often, yes. And I’m not alone, I like to create the songs with Irwan, Irwan Simanjuntak, you know," said Yosi in the Senayan area, Central Jakarta, on Friday (10/07/2026).

"So when we're in the studio, we often laugh together. Hahaha like that," he added.

Interestingly, Yosi admits that she does not have the ability to play musical instruments. She feels that the ability to create songs is a talent given by God.

"I also don’t understand because I come from, uh, people who write a lot of songs but are similar to Melly, you know, can’t play music. So, it's a talent, this talent is a gift from God. So I can make songs without being able to play music," she said.

One of the moments Yosi remembers the most is when she created a song with lyrics that sounded very absurd. At that time, she and Irwan just kept laughing because they felt the lyrics were very funny.

"Well, there’s one that goes 'Ask you, maybe we still don’t know. Ask your friend, ask your cat, ask your dog, meow!' like that. Maybe we still don’t know. When we made the song, we were laughing, I was laughing with Irwan," she said.

Although not all songs are successfully released, Yosi believes that the creative process must continue. For her, productivity is the key for works to be recognized by many people.

"So it seems the answer is just one, if we want our works to be recognized, then we have to create as much as we can and try. Because many people haven't even started, they just think," Yosi asserted.
