The Career Journey of the Late Hamdan ATT, 'The Poorest in the World' Who Became a Legend and Was Called Father by Juniors

The Indonesian dangdut world is in mourning. One of the senior singers and a legend in dangdut music, Hamdan ATT, took his last breath on Tuesday (1/7/2025).

Hamdan ATT was not just a singer; he was a senior admired by his juniors. Here is a brief journey of the late Hamdan!

Hamdan ATT, whose full name is Hamdan Attamimi, was born on January 27, 1950, in Ambon with Arab-Ambonese descent. His name began to rise after releasing his debut single titled 'The Poorest in the World' in 1980, a song that was warmly welcomed by dangdut fans throughout Indonesia.

Since that moment, he has consistently produced a series of other hit songs such as 'Dingin', 'Bekas Pacar', 'Sakit Hati', and 'Mabuk Judi', which often evoke a melancholic atmosphere yet are easy to remember.

As his career continued to rise, Hamdan ATT also became involved as a vocal coach for the talent search event Dangdut Academy since it first aired on Indosiar in 2014. His role as a mentor in that program helped shape a new generation of dangdut singers, while also demonstrating his commitment to advancing the local music industry.

The highest award in his career came in December 2021, when Hamdan ATT received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Indonesian Dangdut Awards. This award was given as a form of appreciation for his dedication and contributions of over four decades in dangdut music.

Behind the glittering stage, Hamdan ATT's journey has not been free from health challenges. He first suffered a burst blood vessel and stroke in 2017, then experienced a second attack during the pandemic in 2021.

This condition forced Hamdan to rest more and undergo intensive therapy, even having to use a wheelchair for daily mobility.

Hamdan ATT is a respected figure among dangdut singers, both seniors and the new generation. Many young musician friends call him Father as a sign of respect, indicating the significant impact he has left in the Indonesian dangdut music industry. Rest in love, Hamdan ATT!
