Finally, the Straw Hat Crew has embarked on their adventure in the live action adaptation of ONE PIECE on Netflix! The first eight episodes of this series were released on Thursday (31/8/2023). This series is based on the work of mangaka Eiichiro Oda and will reveal the origins and depict the meaning of family, the spirit of solidarity, and the epic journey of this group of pirates. When it was first announced that there would be a live action adaptation of ONE PIECE, many people were surprised because they never expected Eiichiro Oda to approve the adaptation of his work.

As reported by Liputan6.com, the mangaka himself was involved in the production process and provided revisions. Eiichiro Oda even revealed that after the shooting process was completed, the production team agreed to reshoot many scenes because he felt that the results were still not adequate to be shown to the world. Eiichiro Oda never let go of his supervision over the series adapted from his work.

When Inaki Godoy auditioned, he didn't realize that the role he was auditioning for was for the ONE PIECE series and the character Luffy. "Everything was given a code name, so you didn't know what show it was. However, the character description stated that he was a cheerful young man, always with a smile on his face, very positive, and a great leader. My mother said, 'Iñaki, you will get this role. This is you at the age of 11. Just like you,'" said Inaki Godoy. 

Funny thing, during the filming process, he always carried a photo of himself at the age of 11. "I tried to remember what it felt like to be in that stage of life when I felt like I could do anything," Inaki said.

2. Mackenyu Arata's Piercings

Handsome actor Mackenyu Arata has recently been trending on Twitter thanks to his skill in portraying Zoro. This is due to the dedication he puts into immersing himself in the character of Zoro, trying to resemble him as much as possible to the original work. 

Mackenyu had to change his appearance to resemble the iconic character Roronoa Zoro. To achieve the green hair that is a distinctive feature of this character, he dyed the bottom part of his hair during the filming days, while using a wig for the top part. In addition, he also made three piercings in his left ear to be able to wear three gold earrings, which are the distinctive identity of Zoro. "It hurts," said Mackenyu in the Netflix Media Center page. "But for Zoro, I will do anything," he said again. 

3. Emily Rudd, the Black Belt of Korea

Emily Rudd is not only an expert in her role as Nami. She also holds a black belt in karate and has knowledge of how to use the Bo Staff, the weapon of choice for her character in this series, even since the beginning of the action training program in the live-action One Piece.

One of the creators of the ONE PIECE Live Action also said that Emily's position in the cast of this series is similar to Nami in the Straw Hat crew. "She's like an older sister surrounded by her younger brothers," he said.

4. Jacob Romero Gibson Learns to Play Slingshot

Usopp is one of the Straw Hat crew members who often entertains the audience with his funny antics. Although Usopp's character does not have the same level of physical fitness as the other Straw Hat crew members, Jacob Romero Gibson still has to improve his physical condition in order to portray this character. 

"I still do a lot of action scene and parkour training. I also become quite skilled in using a slingshot," he said. He can even knock a cup off a table from a distance of about 27 meters. Another interesting fact is that Jacob secretly took home the Jolly Roger of the Going Merry ship, which was designed by Usopp. 

5. Taz Skylar Bau Bawang

In this series, the character Sanji, played by Taz Skylar, uses his feet as weapons during fights. This is done to protect his hands, which are used for cooking due to his profession as a cruise ship chef.

During the four months of preparation before filming, he had to undergo taekwondo training and also learn how to use cooking tools. As part of the final training, he practiced with a professional chef. One of the exercises given was to cut a large amount of onions."It was terrible. I smelled like onions for a month," said Taz.
