Formerly a Woman! 9 Portraits of Elliot Page's Transformation into Transgender, Suffering from Gender Dysphoria - Facing Divorce

In December 2020, actor named Ellen Page announced that he is no longer a woman, but a transgender man. He also changed his name to Elliot Page. 

Born in February 1987, Elliot Page grew up in Nova Scotia, Canada. He was born with the name Ellen Phillpots-Page to his parents who are a graphic designer and a teacher. As reported by Esquire Magazine, Elliot Page has always enjoyed playing sports, especially basketball, since he was a child. Elliot Page also admitted that he looked like a boy since he was young.

Elliot Page began his acting career at the age of 10. According to The Guardian, Elliot Page received his first Oscar nomination as Best Actress at the age of 20 for the film Juno (2007). The film also won Best Original Screenplay (2008). Behind the success of Juno, Elliot Page shared his experience attending the Toronto International Film Festival for the premiere of Juno. He stated in Esquire Magazine that he was forced to wear a dress, even though Elliot really wanted to wear a suit.

Thanks to JUNO, his career is soaring. He also had the opportunity to play in Christopher Nolan's film INCEPTION with Leonardo DiCaprio and Cillian Murphy. However, Elliot Page told Esquire Magazine that when he was filming INCEPTION, he really couldn't leave his hotel room. Elliot Page suffered from depression, anxiety, and severe panic attacks at the age of 22. There were even times when he couldn't read the script.

In addition to being open about mental health, Elliot Page also told Esquire Magazine that he could never see himself as a woman. In the entertainment industry, he is known for his tomboy style. This was also evident from a young age when he preferred playing soccer and hanging out with boys. Furthermore, when Elliot was required to wear dresses and heels during award seasons, he said it was really uncomfortable!

In 2014, when Elliot was 27 years old, he came out as gay. Initially, Elliot felt that this confession was an impossible thing to do. People Magazine stated that his role as Stacie Andree in the film FREEHELD inspired him to announce that he is part of the LGBTQ community. Then, in 2018, Elliot married Emma Portner, who is a choreographer. Unfortunately, according to reports from Vanity Fair, they divorced in 2021. The divorce was announced two months after Elliot came out as transgender.

Elliot Page even made requirements when offered a role. He wanted the costume or clothing of the character he played to have a masculine style. Turns out, Elliot Page has gender dysphoria, KLovers. Earlier this year, 36-year-old Elliot shared his story with GOOD MORNING AMERICA when he experienced gender dysphoria.

Reported by USA Today, gender dysphoria is a discomfort in oneself caused by the difference between gender identity and biological sex obtained since birth. As Elliot grew older, he realized that he always felt uncomfortable when forced to wear clothes or behave in a way that did not match his desires.
