Fans of Harry Potter surely know that the magical world created by J.K. Rowling will be adapted into a series by HBO. After several rumors about the actors who would play in this series, several cast members for characters in the Harry Potter series have finally been confirmed.
So far, only six have been announced. Who are they? Let's get to know them!
The first and most debated is the actor for Severus Snape. This character is played by Paapa Essiedu. Paapa has starred in a series of popular shows such as 'I May Destroy You,' which earned him an Emmy Award nomination. Paapa has also performed on many theater stages. Many Harry Potter fans disagree with the casting of a Black actor for the character of Severus Snape, as it is considered inconsistent with the depiction in the novel.
English actress Janet McTeer will portray Professor Minerva McGonagall, who teaches Transfiguration and is the head of Gryffindor house. Janet McTeer is known for her roles in 'TUMBLEWEEDS', 'AS YOU LIKE IT', and the series 'THE DIVERGENT'. She has also starred in the series 'Into The Storm', 'Jessica Jones', and 'Ozark'.
Next, for the role of Rubeus Hagrid, the Keeper of Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts who is also a friend of Harry Potter. This character is played by actor and comedian Nick Frost, who is known for his work in comedy films and series such as THREE FLAVOURS CORNETTO and Spaced.
Paul Whitehouse, who hails from Wales and is known for his comedy sketches on BBC's THE FAST SHOW, will portray the character Argus Filch. Filch is the quick-tempered and very strict caretaker of Hogwarts, especially regarding the prohibition of leaving the dormitory at night.
Albus Dumbledore is the admired and respected headmaster of Hogwarts in the wizarding world, as well as the mentor and advisor to Harry Potter. This character is portrayed by John Lithgow, who has frequently received awards for his acting, ranging from Emmy Awards to Golden Globe. Unfortunately, the choice of John Lithgow as Dumbledore has also caused disagreement among Harry Potter fans because he is an American actor, not British.
Luke Thallion will play Quirinus Quirrell, the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor in the first book, Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone. Luke Thallion can be said to be less popular than the other cast members because he is more known as a theater actor.
