Nikita Mirzani Remains Calm and Prays for the Prosecutor Despite Her Exception Being Rejected
Nikita Mirzani attends an exception hearing at the South Jakarta District Court related to allegations of extortion and threats.
Kapanlagi.com - In this episode of KapanLagi Show, there is Bastian Steel, one of the cast members from the film SELEPAS TAHLIL. As in previous KapanLagi Show episodes featuring the film lovers community, Movieverse, this time the host is Farid Mardhi.
Bastian shared how the filming process of SELEPAS TAHLIL went and a rather awkward incident. Agni, who plays the character Saras, got locked in the bathroom, and the bathroom door had to be broken down. What was the excitement like?
Host: "Has Bastian ever rejected a film because of the director or the co-star? Can you tell us about it?"
Bastian: "Wow, that's a heavy question right off the bat, haha. Honestly, I have never rejected a film because, at my core, I am a singer. So, every time there's a film offer, it's something enjoyable for me. I have never really turned down a film because of the co-star, the director, or even the story or production house. I really enjoy shooting, creating something, creating a film, so whenever there's an offer, I just take it, even if sometimes the story isn't great; I just go for it."
Host: "Yes, what's important is to do your best, especially for Indonesian films."
Bastian: "Just try it out, experiences like that."
Host: "Oh that's good, right? Bastian also mentioned earlier that if there is a film, just take it and do your best, right? Have you ever regretted accepting or rejecting a film offer?"
Bastian: "So, if I have, it means it's a film that has already been released, right?"
Host: "Maybe you don't need to be specific, just share your experience and why."
Bastian: "Honestly, I have never regretted it, but sometimes I think, oh no, there must be one film that fits that description. But I don't have any regrets either; it's a new experience for me. There was a time I was filming with someone, and I almost let something slip out. There is one film that might be from a new team, so it turned out like that. But I still try to give my best, especially since the story is set in Toba, my own village, so whatever."
Host: "So it's not really because of the story, but maybe because the team is new, right? Maybe the experience is lacking?
Bastian: "So we are all new, I am new too, I can't help much, just help with acting. If there are regrets about the film, not really, but sometimes there are really good films, and then they say the schedule can't work out, so I can't participate, it clashes (with my schedule), that has happened before."
Host: "Mostly just because of schedule clashes, right?"
Bastian: "Yes, it has happened before."

Host: "Okay-okay, all good, right? Haha. Alright, next, have you ever had a misunderstanding with the crew or other actors during the filming of any movies?"
B: "Hmm luckily never, because that's something to avoid to keep the shooting running smoothly. But I think when I was little, I might have. Because when I was a kid, I was a bit of a troublemaker and liked to tease people, so I think there were a few co-stars who ended up crying."
Host: "Seriously, you made your co-star cry?"
Bastian: "Yeah, just because I was mischievous when I was little, so that was the fun part, but now, no way."
Host: "Well, you're an adult now."
Bastian: "A bit, but still have a baby face, right?"
Host: "Yeah, how about it, still a baby face, friends? Still, right? Okay-okay, maybe some of you here have watched the trailer for SELEPAS TAHLIL? Have you? Wow, cool
okay, later we will have some questions and fun games there, so get ready.

Host: "What makes this film special compared to other horror films, and what made you say yes to being in this film?"
Bastian: "Firstly, what makes this horror special compared to others is perhaps the hope. I hope as an actor to provide not just jump scares or horror because the ghosts are scary. But I want to show a side that provides sadness, that losing a parent is scarier than those ghosts. That's the hope as an actor, to show the sadness, that the horror of losing someone we love is greater."
Host: "Indeed, that is the most horrifying event in the world."
Bastian: "That's my hope as an actor in the film SELEPAS TAHLIL, the reason I chose it is because from the beginning... by the way guys, I was the last to join the SELEPAS TAHLIL team."
Host: "The last cast?"
Bastian: "Yes, the last cast. So they had already started reading, and I just joined suddenly.
Host: "How?"
Bastian: "So at that time, they contacted me from the Visinema studio team, sent the synopsis late at night to my mom, and then my mom sent it to me. I read it and was like, 'Okay, let's go to the office for a screen test tomorrow morning,' because the story was good. Yes, the other cast members were already informed because they were already fixed. So I was like 'come on, let's go with Kang Epy again, I want to go for it.' Immediately went for the screen test and it turned out to be a match for the role, cool!"
Host: "Wow, so this really came out of nowhere suddenly..."
Bastian: "Thank you to the casting director for still remembering me and suddenly thinking of me."
Host: "Wow, exciting, hopefully it can be a film that..."
Bastian: "It must be different for sure."
Host: "Of course it will be different."
Bastian: "Yeah, I hope so because we see that horror films are really abundant right now, so we really hope to provide a film that is different from the others."
KapanLagicom/Adrian Utama Putra
Bastian: "He's cheating, he's not (present)."
Host: "Oh yes, I'm really sorry."
Bastian: "Friends, please pray for Agni, he's sick, hope he gets well soon and can get back to activities."
Host: "Yes, that's right, so I just got news from the team that Agni was sick early this morning, so he couldn't come. Let's just watch directly, what was your first impression with Agni?
Bastian: "Honestly, with all the actors, it's my first time shooting together. So the impression is very, very pleasant because at the time I told you earlier, I was the last one to join, while they had already started the reading process. So when I entered, I was already a bit stressed and nervous because I was the new one, so I hadn't created my character yet while they were already halfway through. But it turns out my co-actors were very kind and not arrogant. (They) helped me try again from the beginning and assisted in creating my role as Yudhis, so my first impression with Agni and Kang Epy and others was very happy. I was really helped and supported to create all the characters into one."
Host: "Okay, so the process of getting to know each other and the reading overall was so good?"
Bastian: "Everything was really nice."
KapanLagicom/Adrian Utama Putra
Host: "From the roles you've played, is there one that you like the most or one that you don't like about Yudhis?
Bastian: "What I like the most is that this is the first time I play a role that involves expressing fear, and also crying, which is something new for Bastian. So I’m really happy to portray Yudhis because I could explore acting that I haven't done before. Like expressing fear and crying is something new, so I'm really happy to play Yudhis."
Host: "Okay..."
Bastian: "It's hard, I swear, seriously guys, watching him being scared and feeling threatened looks easy, but actually doing it is really tough."
Host: "That's why I think crying is the hardest acting."
Bastian: "It's hard, yes, because it has to be felt, right?"
Host: "Absolutely, so how do you learn to cry so you can..."
Bastian: "That's why I'm really grateful to have friends who truly support and help discuss how to solve
my own question about how to cry, so I ended up talking a lot with Kang Epy and the acting coach, and overall I finally understood that
that's how it is."
Host: "When was the last time you cried in real life?"
Bastian: "In real life, it's quite rare for me."
Host: "That's why it's gonna be so hard?"
Bastian: "That makes sense too."
Host: "Wow, it's really challenging..."
Bastian: "Because Yudhis really loves his father, you know. So I really have to feel sad."
Host: "Absolutely, that might be very, very difficult, while for us watching it seems really easy."
KapanLagicom/Adrian Utama Putra
Host: "Bastian also plays the character Yudhis and he has to speak Javanese, right?"
Bastian: "That's right."
Host: "And you’re not originally from Java, right?"
Bastian: "Very Javanese, haha."
Host: "So how did you dive into that role and learn the Javanese language?"
Bastian: "That's one of the challenging things because honestly, it’s quite heavy since Javanese has many variations, like Central Java, East Java, and others, which have different languages and even accents. It became a topic of discussion during the reading because I didn’t know which Javanese to use."
Host: "You’ve got the accent down, right?"
Bastian: "Well, just wait and see..."
Host: "Maybe we want to hear one sentence in Bastian's Javanese accent. Do you want to hear it, Movieverse friends? Okay, one sentence in Javanese.
Bastian: "Opo seh ha ha." I’m embarrassed. That’s just a little bit, guys, you’ll have to watch the movie for more.
Host: "Alright, alright."
Bastian: "Bastian becomes Javanese, okay."
Host: "It must be something super challenging, right friends..."
Bastian: "And becoming a jamet, haha..."
The audience in the studio erupts in laughter.
Host: "But is Javanese a refined language or just Javanese..."
Bastian: "East Javanese, but not fully Javanese. We still realize how to make it sound like Surabaya City, not completely Javanese.
Oh okay, really.
Host: "You’ve got the accent down, I’m Javanese but..."
Bastian: "Okay, sorry, haha, okay, I apologize."
KapanLagicom/Adrian Utama Putra
Host: "So this is a horror movie, is Bastian usually here? Because in horror films, the location is also, hmm you know, is there a moment that makes you shiver when entering the set or during the shooting, or any unexpected incidents?"
Bastian: "Honestly, I'm not afraid of ghosts or anything like that, which makes it difficult."
Host: "But afraid of losing, right?"
Bastian: "No, I think I'm already like a ghost, ha ha. So indeed,
it's really one of those things I said earlier, it's really hard to act scared because maybe I'm not too afraid of mystical things. But there was an incident when I was shooting a scene where I was locked in, and yes, our set is real, and I finally felt what it's like to be scared after doing that scene. So initially, I was never scared, but during that scene where I couldn't get out of the warehouse, that was when I first felt, 'Oh, so this is scary, this is what it feels like to shiver.' And I really shivered because there were
ghosts on set and all that. I just felt like, wow!"
Host: "Where is this location, Bastian?"
Bastian: "Eh, the location is a secret, guys."
Host: "Oh, a secret."
Bastian: "Don’t let it be used for other shoots."
Host: "Oh, don't let it, okay."
Bastian: "Because our habit is that after being used for one shoot, it gets used everywhere."
Host: "Okay, really to make it..."
Bastian: "Just kidding, but in the end, I could feel the mystical vibe to the point where I wanted to hurry up and finish asking the director
what he wanted and how he wanted the cameraman's POV. So that if possible, we could do it in one take, next shot, next shot, because it was so exciting. It got worse with
Agni."
Host: "Oh why?"
Bastian: "Locked in the bathroom for 40 minutes."
Host: "How come?"
Bastian: "It couldn't be opened at all, so during that 40-minute process, in the end, it was just broken down."
Host: "Is this place already known for its mystical occurrences?"
I don't know, though.
Bastian: "But actually, as a full team, we have to be polite and make sure that nothing unwanted happens. Well, it seems that child is a bit hyperactive, right? It seems a bit mischievous, like a little devil. 'Wow, if this one, this one seems good.' But really, for 40 minutes he couldn't come out again
during this shooting process until we couldn't shoot because we were waiting for him to come out of the bathroom. He was urinating and then he tried to open it but couldn't. Luckily he brought his cellphone and called someone outside, his assistant was called, until we had to what, until the crew had to pry it open with this to open the hinge but it still didn't work, finally they had to destroy it.
Host: 'What scene was this during...'
Bastian: 'No, this scene is really real, we weren't shooting, he wanted to take a break to go to the toilet to urinate but couldn't come out until we were waiting for him to shoot, until I said come on, come on, the ghost is done, I want to shoot now.'
Host: 'It was already midnight then...'
Bastian: 'It was already dawn, it was dawn.'
Host: 'Oh, wow, so the shooting was really real like that?'
Bastian: 'Real until the night, indeed it was night.'
KapanLagicom/Adrian Utama Putra
Host: "Remember, no spoilers! Which part seemed really easy during reading but turned out to be really hard when performed?"
Bastian: "The... oh yeah, when finding out that my father had passed away."
Host: "Ah, I'm so sorry to hear that."
Bastian: "Yeah, so during the reading, it felt like it was just like that
we just went through it, but when he entered the set, it turned out to be heavier and the feeling was different to take that scene, and that’s one of the scenes that I felt really impacted me too."
Host: "So, generally speaking, what do you think is the biggest challenge of acting in horror films compared to other genres?"
Bastian: "Like I said earlier, it seems to be the acting of fear because it’s hard
yeah, because I’m not really afraid of the supernatural, so that’s what I’m trying to understand, right?
It’s something new for me like that."
Host: "Which is harder, crying acting or acting scared?"
Bastian: "I think acting scared."
Host: "Scared, huh?"
Bastian: "I swear it’s really hard, you know, but if the fear is being scolded by parents, it seems easier because I’ve done that often; that’s the only heavy part."
Host: "Okay, but so far in your film career, what do you like the most about what you’ve done? What genres do you like the most?"
Bastian: "Oh, about genres. I like anything, especially new things; I really love that. That’s why this film is special for me because it’s been almost years since I last shot, so this is finally me shooting again in the film SELEPAS TAHLIL with a horror genre."
KapanLagicom/Adrian Utama Putra
Host: "Okay, but if we talk about your career between film and music moving forward..."
Bastian: "Don't say it like that."
Host: "Which one does Bastian prefer?"
Bastian: "I like both, I really do. But if we talk about dreams, I really hope to get a good film with a great story, like SELEPAS TAHLIL again."
Host: "Okay, fun, fun, fun! Now, what are the downsides of being a child artist?"
Bastian: "The downside of being a child artist... oh, are we talking about being an artist now or a child artist from childhood until now?"
Host: "From childhood until now."
Bastian: "Maybe the loss of privacy, there are pros and cons actually.
So I just try to balance it, I don't really feel the pressure. For example, people say you can't play when you're a kid, but I actually think my hobby and happiness come from singing and shooting, so there’s really nothing lost, right? Sometimes people like to say, what is this?"
Host: "So it's like a playground, right?"
Bastian: "Yes."
Host: "So it's like working but playing at the same time."
Bastian: "It feels like I'm just hanging out on stage or on set."
Host: "Are there any downsides?"
Bastian: "Maybe just privacy, yes, from a young age I've felt the lack of privacy, and everyone knows me, which is actually good. Fortunately, I'm the type of person who enjoys that. If people notice me, it's like, okay, I'm an artist. But there are some who think that privacy is the most important thing. Like, I can hardly eat, you know? But luckily for me, since I was young, I just enjoy it. Even now, when I'm eating or suddenly walking on the sidewalk, someone shouts, 'Hey Bastian!' I just enjoy it now. So if someone asks for a photo or to chat...
Host: "Let's go, let's go!"
Bastian: "Well, what can you do? It is what it is, and the more they want to interact with us, it means what we give is still okay."
KapanLagicom/Adrian Utama Putra
Host: "Have you ever had this happy happy moment actually
there's never been anything negative like this."
Bastian: "Yeah, don't say that, I mean I'm positive."
Host: "Really, really, but have you ever wanted to have another profession like, eh maybe stop being an artist but want another profession like 'I want to do this, it seems fun.'"
Bastian: "If I want to do this, it seems there's really nothing else, it seems like singing and movies, but if it's really destined not to be an artist, what would I feel, I would be a lawyer, I’m Batak again, ha ha where else would I go, it seems like that’s the direction, yeah
it seems like it’s here."
Host: "Okay, okay, maybe in another multiverse, right?"
Bastian: "It seems like in another multiverse."
Host: "You're already good at being a speaker, right? A lawyer already."
Bastian: "Every day in court."
KapanLagicom/Adrian Utama Putra
Host: "Okay, okay, this might be the last question, Bastian.
Could you tell us about your comparison from day one to the last day of shooting?
How was the shooting process and the other cast members?
Bastian: "Well, day one was definitely a bit stiff because I was getting to know the other teams who hadn’t been at the office during the reading preparations. That’s for sure. Day two was similar, day three maybe started to loosen up, and by day four, it was really fun, everything was on time, no problems, and then it was the last day."
Host: So the shooting only took 5 days?"
Bastian: No way, because once we got comfortable, it didn’t feel like it was already the last day."
Host: "I thought it was only 5 days, that’s really fast."
Bastian: "If it were 5 days, it would probably just be for YouTube and reels, haha."
Host: "So how many days in total did the shooting take?"
Bastian: "In total, it was about two weeks or more because we didn’t move around much; we didn’t have many locations, so there wasn’t too much moving around. Sometimes moving takes time, but luckily we didn’t have to move too much. My father passed away, moving around makes it hard for the kids who are about to bury him, you know?
What’s the point of moving around? Oh, it’s so stressful for me to see my father.
Yudhis is stressed, right?"
Host: "Okay, okay, if you don’t mind me asking, how many times have you cast for films overall?"
Bastian: "A lot, definitely a lot. I’ve done many casting screen tests, even if I didn’t get accepted, that’s okay, but I’ve done so many. There’s no way I just suddenly got a role; it seems impossible. If that happened, it probably means the character was really suited for me, like Bastian Steel, because the character in the film surely fits the actors playing them. So, I’ve definitely done casting and screen tests."
Host: "Okay, so regarding the current casting, Bastian started as a singer, right? It must not be easy to cast for a film. Could you tell us how your first casting experience was?"
Bastian: "Ha ha ha, I was shaking, you know? I swear the first time I cast, I think I was still a kid. I was casting for a commercial, I think it was a commercial, and it was like a typical casting.
Holding the board. 'Hello, I’m Bastian, I’m 12 years old,' I was shaking until I had to repeat it about 5 times because I was so nervous
'Ah, I can’t, ah, sis, ah,' seriously guys, come on, you can do it, little brother, one more time
'Ah, mom,' ha ha. But the casting that was most memorable for me was the screen test for the film LOVE STORY 2; it took almost 4 hours because the casting director didn’t want me to go home until I could do it. He wanted me to be the one playing it, but if I wasn’t serious
I was told to wait and repeat again. I said, 'I think I can’t anymore,' but he said, 'You can do it, try reading it again, relax,' then we did the screen test again, but it took 4 hours, and it turned out I was chosen by the director.
Oh, that’s something I won’t forget, ha ha, thank you, Abe."
