Cancelled Film, Bestselling Novel Adaptation 'JINGGA DAN SENJA' Transforms into Serial Format

Kapanlagi.com - In 2016, Sunil Samtani, producer of Rapi Films, announced that he had bought the adaptation rights to two bestselling novels by Esti Kinasih titled JINGGA DAN SENJA and JINGGA DALAM ELEGI. The two books were planned to be adapted into one film.

Five years later, the project was almost unheard of. Until one day, Sunil informed that together with Screenplay Productions, they would transform the adaptation into a serial format for the Vidio streaming service.
 
"I took this novel from Mbak Esti a long time ago, initially intending to make it into a film for theaters. During the pandemic, I immediately spoke to Screenplay. Because this IP is quite big, how about making it into a series? After pitching to Vidio, it was finally accepted," said Sunil during a press conference on Monday (25/10/2021) at CGV Pacific Place, South Jakarta.
 
The popular source material immediately caught Vidio's interest. Moreover, the story being told is also good. "We know this is a best-selling written work. From Vidio's perspective, we feel that this is the right concept for our audience and it would be a shame not to turn such a good novel into a visual work," said Tina Arwin, Chief of Content Vidio, on the same occasion.
 

1. Answering Fans' Concerns about the Book

Esti Kinasih, as the author, feels delighted that her novel has transformed into a series. Initially, when it was announced that the book would be adapted into a film, there were many questions from readers of the Jingga dan Senja trilogy.

"The initial plan was for a feature film, and the readers responded enthusiastically at that time. Then the question arose: 'How can this book be turned into a one-and-a-half-hour film when there are hundreds of pages in two books?'. They were confused about whether all their favorite scenes would be included. But when it transformed into a series, they were happy because there was more room to include scenes from the novel," explained Esti.

The series JINGGA DAN SENJA started airing on October 29, 2021, on the Vidio streaming service every Friday. Starring Yoriko Angeline, Abidzar Al Ghifari, and Giulio Parengkuan, this series tells the story of Tari, who is trapped in a love triangle with Ari and Angga, two school leaders who are currently at odds.
