Falcon Pictures Returns to Remake Thai Horror Film 'SHUTTER' After Success with 'KANG MAK FROM PEE MAK'

Kapanlagi.com - On the night of the Cannes Film Market 2025, specifically on May 18, Falcon Pictures announced that they are once again pursuing the remake project of a horror film from Thailand after achieving success with KANG MAK FROM PEE MAK (2024). To support the smooth execution of their plans, the production house responsible for the film DENDAM MALAM KELAM (2025) has once again partnered with the film company GDH from the Land of the White Elephant.

SHUTTER is the title of the film announced by Falcon Pictures to be adapted. Quoting from Variety Magazine, this project is reported to star a lineup of prominent actors and actresses in the Indonesian film industry. The names include Vino G. Bastian, Anya Geraldine, and Niken Anjani.

After achieving very satisfying results for KANG MAK FROM PEE MAK, Herwin Novianto has been appointed again as a director in the making of the remake of the film SHUTTER. The Citra Award-winning director from 2012 is also known to have been trusted by Falcon Pictures to direct the sequel of the adaptation project of the South Korean film titled 2ND MIRACLE IN CELL NO. 7 (2024).

Without holding back, Falcon Pictures also shared several still cut snippets from the production process of the remake of the film SHUTTER. This seems to be aimed at teasing and simultaneously haunting the audience with excitement as they await the film's release in theaters across Indonesia.

2. Planned Release at the End of 2025

The production process of the Indonesian version of SHUTTER is reported to have been completed and is planned to hit the big screen at the end of 2025. According to Frederica, the producer working at Falcon Pictures, this remake project aims to showcase Southeast Asian charm to a broader audience.

"This remake (adaptation) is not only a tribute to the great work of Banjong Pisanthanakun, but also an expansion of our vision to bring beloved Southeast Asian stories to new audiences with fresh cultural resonance." said the producer of Falcon Pictures.

3. A Brief Overview of the Film SHUTTER (2004)

SHUTTER is a psychological horror film that was first released in 2004. To this day, the film directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun along with Parkpoom Wongpoom still leaves a mark in the minds of the Thai people.

The film SHUTTER tells the story of a couple named Tun (Ananda Everingham) and Jane (Natthaweeranuch Thongmee) who begin to experience a series of strange occurrences after accidentally hitting a woman. Tun, who works as a photographer, often finds the sudden appearance of a mysterious shadow in the background of his camera shots. What was initially considered trivial and merely coincidental becomes increasingly disturbing over time.

Feeling that something is amiss, the couple investigates further into the identity of the victim. It turns out that the woman they hit the other day was Tun's former classmate, Natre (Achita Sikamana). Dark secrets are revealed as Jane continues her investigation.

In the upcoming adaptation by Falcon Pictures, it seems that the premise offered will not be much different from the original version. Of course, there will be adjustments to the names of the characters used. Based on the existing information, the selected names of the main characters for the remake of the film SHUTTER are Darwin, Pia, and Lilies.
