List of Popular Wattpad Novel Adaptations, From 'DEAR NATHAN' to 'KISAH UNTUK GERI'

Kapanlagi.com - In recent years, the book industry in Indonesia has been enlivened by the presence of novels of various genres taken from the Wattpad writing platform. The popularity of these novels, which have been read millions of times, has had an impact on the sales of physical books.

Now, during the pandemic, many Wattpad novels have been adapted into series for streaming channels. Some have aired, while others are still in the production stage. Here is a summary that can be observed.

1. DEAR NATHAN THE SERIES [2017]

Dear Nathan is a novel by Erisca Febriani that was published after gaining popularity on the Wattpad writing platform. The love story of Nathan and Salma became the first Wattpad novel to be adapted into a feature film and proved to be quite successful, as evidenced by the skyrocketing careers of Jefri Nichol and Amanda Rawles in the film industry post-involvement.

Following the success of the film, Rapi Films decided to create a serial version that airs daily on RCTI, starring Syifa Hadju and Zikri Daulay. This serial consists of 24 episodes and has received various responses from fans of the novel.

2. ASYA STORY [2020]

Asya Story is a bestselling novel by Sabrina Febrianti that tells the story of a high school student named Asya who becomes a victim of rape and gets pregnant. This novel became the first Wattpad adaptation to be made into a serial and aired on a streaming channel.

Unlike typical serials, Ichwan Persada, as the director and screenplay writer, made it into 24 episodes with each season consisting of six episodes.

ASYA STORY itself is starred by Brigitta Cynthia as the main character, Asya. In addition to the former member of Cherry Belle, the series also features newcomers such as Firsan Abdullah, Sani Fahreza, and Alzio.

3. FRIENDSHIT [2020]

Following the success of ASYA STORY, Ichwan Persada quickly moves on to create another series. Still based on the popular Wattpad novel, this time by author Queen Nakey, titled FRIENDSHIT.

This series is starred by many newcomers who were selected through auditions, with the hope of producing excellent future stars.

The concept of FRIENDSHIT is the same as Ichwan's previous production under the banner of Indonesia Sinema Persada. It releases six episodes per year, with a total of 24 episodes. These six episodes have different durations, but none exceed twenty minutes.

4. TURN ON [2021]

TURN ON is the title of an original series owned by the Vidio streaming channel, produced by Screenplay Productions. Unlike DEAR NATHAN, ASYA STORY, and FRIENDSHIT, this Wattpad novel by Tiara Wales has not been published as a book, although it has been read 16.5 million times.

This eight-episode series stars Giorgino Abraham and Clara Bernadeth. It focuses on the life of Andreas, a businessman whose manhood is disturbed due to trauma. Meeting a girl named Maria gives him hope for recovery.

5. STORY FOR GERI [2021]

The series STORY FOR GERI has just aired on the We TV streaming channel since last week (5/3/2021) and is planned to have a total of nine episodes. This series serves as a reunion for Angga Aldi Yunanda and Syifa Hadju after being involved in a soap opera together a few years ago.

STORY FOR GERI is adapted from the novel by Erisca Ferbriani. Initially, MD Pictures as the production house planned to make it a feature film, but due to the pandemic, it was eventually changed into a series.
