MD Pictures Releases Two Versions of 'KKN DI DESA PENARI' Simultaneously, Confusing the Censorship Board

Kapanlagi.com - After a two-year delay, MD Pictures is ready to release KKN DI DESA PENARI simultaneously in all cinemas in Indonesia starting from April 30, 2022. Interestingly, there will be two versions shown simultaneously.

The first version is the cut version for ages 13 and up, marked with a white poster. Then there is the uncut version for ages 17 and up, marked with a black poster.

1. Satisfying Fans

MD Pictures' decision to release one film with two different versions turned out to be in order to satisfy fans. Because when watching reviews of the story on Youtube, as well as reading the comments that came on Twitter, there was a scene that could not be removed.

"When watching reviews on Youtube and reading fans' comments, they said that the incident at Tapak Tilas must be included. If that scene is there, it's definitely for 17-year-olds. If it's not there, fans will definitely be disappointed. So I made two versions for 13-year-olds and 17-year-olds," said Manoj Punjabi as the producer, met at Epicentrum XXI, Rasuna Said area, South Jakarta, on Friday (22/4/2022).

2. LSF Surprised

When submitting one film in two versions, Manoj Punjabi surprised the Film Censorship Board (LSF). Because this is a rare occurrence for them. There has never been an Indonesian film like this before.

"The LSF people said they had never assessed one title with two censorship ratings, if they wanted the uncut version later. But I said, 'No, Sir, if it's only a cut version, the audience will be disappointed.' So the strategy is to have both so there is a choice," said Manoj.

3. Leave it to the Cinema Operators

Regarding which version will be played, Manoj Punjabi leaves it all to the cinema operators. Because they are the ones who know the target place for the appropriate version.

"Some cinemas show both, in some areas they want the cut version, some want the uncut, because they know which market it is. I leave it to the exhibitor to determine which market it is. But surely there are more uncut enthusiasts. But we don't know, because during Lebaran (Eid), people will definitely bring their families, some can bring their children and choose the cut version," said Manoj.

4. The Beginning of Aulia Sarah's Offer for Open Casting

Aulia Sarah tells the story of how she got the offer to cast in the film directed by Awi Suryadi. At that time, Aulia did not join the hype of the story of KKN DI DESA PENARI which went viral on Twitter after being promoted by a user named Simpleman.

"This is viral from Twitter, then made into a book. Until finally KKN is going to be made into a film and it was announced that there is an open casting for the characters. My management informed me that there is a casting, honestly I didn't know, I didn't follow even though it was viral. I don't know why, maybe at that time I was busy so I skipped the news about KKN DI DESA PENARI," said Aulia.

5. Research on the Story of 'KKN DI DESA PENARI'

Although she did not follow the story, Aulia did not want to waste the opportunity to play in the film. From there, she did various research to be able to get the feel and essence of the whole story.

"But I cannot cast with 0% preparation, so I researched, even bought the book. Then I casted, and I got it. As time went by, process by process, I finally understood the story," explained Aulia.
