Melanie Subono Introduces Indonesian Wealth Through the Film 'TENTANG IBU'

Kapanlagi.com - Singer and activist, Melanie Subono produced a new film titled TENTANG IBU (About Mother). Starring Jajang C. Noer and Khiva Iskak, this film will be available for streaming on Vidio platform starting December 1, 2021. The film TENTANG IBU tells the story of three mother figures, a mother who gives birth, mother earth, and motherland.

A child who travels around Indonesia to find his father only armed with a photo of his parents' wedding and his father's cloth. Then, the cloth leads the child to the five islands of Indonesia. Along the way, he encounters five wisdoms, five songs, and five traditions.

Initially, Melanie didn't have confidence in producing a film. Considering that she is a woman who works as a musician and activist. Automatically, producing a film became something new for her.

"Then I reflected through Cokelat's album. At one point, Cokelat made a national album. They recycled songs, a lot of national songs. At that time, the band's kids recycled national songs," added Melanie.

"So, I brainstormed, how can my feelings, my anger, make people know Indonesia through art," said Melanie.

1. Not Confident in Producing Films

"I myself actually wasn't confident, I watched the teaser and felt like crying. I have been involved as a musician and an activist. I have been an activist for a long time, both in art and shouting on the streets," said Melanie.

Melanie's interest in presenting the film TENTANG IBU (About Mother) is because she wants to showcase the richness of Indonesia's natural panorama and culture through art.

"Here, we highlight the mother figure in the form of a mother's embodiment, Mother Earth, where we tell stories about spices, food, and everything else. And Motherland. We never forget the Red and White flag in the five regions," said Melanie in a virtual press conference on Thursday (7/10/2021).

2. Enlisting a Senior Actor

In the film TENTANG IBU (About Mother), Melanie chose senior actress Jajang C. Noer to play the lead role as a mother. The actress, who has a wealth of experience in the film industry, feels grateful to be involved in the film TENTANG IBU (About Mother).

"I am very grateful to be invited by Melanie, it's very enjoyable. I thought maybe Melanie thought I had a rustic look. So it's suitable for someone from the countryside. I have played the role of a mother in various films, so it can be adapted," said Jajang C. Noer.
