'RANGGA & CINTA' Coming Soon, Riri Riza & Mira Lesmana Remember the AADC Premiere Moment in the Cinema

Kapanlagi.com - The film RANGGA & CINTA, which is a remake of the hit film ADA APA DENGAN CINTA? (2002) or AADC, will be released in theaters on October 2, 2025, across all cinemas in the country. Riri Riza & Mira Lesmana, who were producers of the AADC film, are back involved in RANGGA & CINTA.

Riri Riza now serves as the director, and Mira Lesmana is the producer alongside Nicholas Saputra, who plays Rangga in the AADC film. In a roundtable session at the KapanLagi.com office, Riri Riza & Mira Lesmana shared how the moment was when the first AADC film premiered in theaters 23 years ago.

Mira Lesmana mentioned that there was a small concert on the first day of AADC's screening. At that time, she also recalled many school-uniformed children who were suspected of skipping school to watch AADC.

"I remember very well, Plaza Senayan, we sat together because on that first day we were going to have a small concert in the atrium, and we had to do a sound check early in the morning at 8. The cinema only started at 12. So we had coffee at 9 in the morning, and then we noticed the security guard approaching us. 'Oh no, how is it so crowded in front, there are many school-uniformed kids, and we were like, what's going on? They all want to get in to watch AADC,' which means they were skipping school too," said Mira Lesmana.

On the other hand, Riri Riza reminisces about working with Dian Sastrowardoyo & Nicholas Saputra as the main stars of AADC 23 years ago. At that time, they were just starting their careers in the film industry.

"For me, the special thing is that there was an unimaginable moment with two young teenagers, one was Dian Sastrowardoyo, and the second was Nicholas Saputra, who were like young kids just opening the door to the Indonesian film entertainment world," said Riri Riza.

Riri Riza then mentioned that Dian Sastro & Nicholas Saputra were the most genuine representation of Indonesian youth at that time. Riri Riza also confirmed Mira Lesmana's impression regarding the first experience of watching the film about the audience's enthusiasm.

"Watching their performance was like the most honest depiction of youth. So it was very, very surprising. And that’s what Mira told about the first time the door opened and seeing their enthusiasm, that was something unimaginable at that time, the energy," concluded Riri Riza.

2. Synopsis of RANGGA & CINTA

RANGGA & CINTA centers around the lives of teenagers in high school, with the character Cinta who is part of the school bulletin board gang along with Alya, Milly, Maura, and Karmen. They are known as popular, active, and creative students.

Everything changes when a poetry competition is held, and a mysterious student named Rangga unexpectedly wins the contest. Cinta, who initially does not know Rangga, becomes curious, and slowly, a bond begins to form between them. Although Rangga is known to be quiet, their relationship develops through intimate and intellectual daily interactions.

3. World Premiere at BIFF 2025

The film RANGGA DAN CINTA will be featured at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) 2025, which will be held starting September 17, 2025. Set to premiere in Indonesia on October 2, 2025, this highly anticipated romantic musical will actually have its world premiere in South Korea. Dian Sastrowardoyo & Nicholas Saputra as Cinta & Rangga from AADC will also be present at this moment.
