Shooting with Artificial Rain in Sukabumi, Emir Mahira Admits to Getting Sick 17 Times - Reveals the Most Challenging Scene

The Gala Premiere of the horror film TENUNG BY RISA SARASWATI & DIMASTA, held at CGV Grand Indonesia, Central Jakarta, on Monday (2/6/2025), became a showcase for the talents of the film's cast. One of them is Emir Mahira, who plays the character Ari, one of the children of Linda, the central character of this film.

Emir admitted to facing quite a heavy physical challenge during the shooting process. The filming location in Sukabumi, known for its cold climate, combined with artificial weather conditions, was the main factor. Here are the details.

"So tiring because coincidentally this shooting is in Sukabumi, which is really cold. It was with artificial rain, and with all sorts of artificial rain, I can't deny that I caught a cold maybe 17 times while shooting this movie, haha," said Emir Mahira.

Despite that, Emir continued filming with full spirit and professionalism. He emphasized that his physical condition did not disrupt the film's production schedule. "No, we have to remain professional, right? I also take care of myself, even if I get sick I can control myself with vitamins and all that, but if it gets really bad, we take a one-day break from shooting," he explained.

Emir also mentioned that the biggest challenge in this film actually came from the final scene, which was very physically and emotionally draining. Although it seemed like a single series of scenes, the shooting process took three days.

"Maybe the one at the ending. At the ending, it really drained his energy because it was very technical, right? Maybe when you watch it, it looks like oh this is one sequence, but it was shot over 3 days because it was that difficult," said Emir.

Besides that, Emir had to imagine himself as a father of a teenager, something he had never experienced in real life. To dive into the character of Ari, Emir had many discussions with his own father and some friends who had become parents. "I talked to my own dad, and with my friends who have also become dads. That's where most of the research came from," he said.

Interestingly, Emir felt that this role brought him closer to the current social reality. Many young men have to take on the role of a father without preparation. "You know, the reality is that there are many in this world like Ari. Who are not ready to be a dad but end up being a dad. That's actually it, even though it might be far from me now, but it is close to the current reality," he said.

The film TENUNG is scheduled to be released in all cinemas in Indonesia starting June 5, 2025. The story and the chilling atmosphere built in this film keep the audience curious until the end. "I think the intriguing aspect of TENUNG is the guess who element. I feel that’s what makes it exciting to watch until the end, even I’m like, who could it be," concluded Emir Mahira.
