The Horror Film 'DESA MATI THE MOVIE' Offers Tension and Terror in a Cursed Village

Raising the story of five friends, namely Arga (Kiesha Alvaro), Lintang (Frislly Herlind), Dimas (Ehan Brenda), Ajeng (Adila Fitri), and Sandra (Shakira Sheldrick), this film tells about their journey to a natural tourist destination. However, in the middle of the journey, their car breaks down and forces them to stop in a mysterious village.  

"This film tells the story of Lintang and her friends visiting her grandmother's house in the village of Mati. During the trip, their car breaks down. They are then helped by the local residents and stay at the head of the village's house. Mystical terror begins to emerge until they have to face a supernatural being that comes back to life," said Kiesha Alvaro, who plays Arga.  

In this film, Kiesha plays Arga, a laid-back and innocent young man, who is very different from his everyday personality. He admitted to facing significant challenges in portraying the role, especially during action scenes. "The character of Arga is difficult to play, but I have to perform many action scenes until I got hurt from falling. Frislly and I here are friends. Building chemistry isn’t difficult, it’s just fun," said Kiesha Alvaro, a young actor who is also the son of musician and politician Pasha Ungu.  

The filming process of this movie took place in a location that truly resembles a ghost village. Producer Olivia Irawan Chen mentioned that they filmed in a remote area far from civilization with very limited facilities.  

"If I may say, we really filmed in a Ghost Village. The place is truly in the wilderness, there isn't even water there. To get water, we used rainwater harvesting. So the filming location is really tough," explained Olivia.  

Olivia also hopes this film can attract the attention of Indonesian audiences to reach 1 million viewers. She even vowed to return to the filming location to build infrastructure in the form of sanitation if that target is achieved. "If we reach one million viewers, I will create a water channel so that everyone can have sanitation. Because there is no water there, even to clean oneself they have to use rainwater harvesting," added Olivia.  

In addition to the tension presented, this film also conveys an important message about friendship, courage, and the mystery that ultimately reveals the connection of the five friends to the Dead Village. With a thrilling storyline, DEAD VILLAGE THE MOVIE is expected to become one of the favorite horror films in 2025.
