Turn Billiard Sports into a Serial Story 'THE ACES', Salman Aristo Casts Kevin Ardilova and Emir Mahira as Actors

Kapanlagi.com - Filmmaker Salman Aristo is preparing a new series titled THE ACES for the Prime Video streaming service. Interestingly, Salman makes billiards the main driving force of the story.

Her husband, Gina S. Noer, did not expect that a game of billiards could incorporate many stories. Like in THE ACES which captures the search for the identity of two young people wrapped in social class differences and political intrigue.

"Billiards is something that is rarely explored in our audiovisual works. Even though the existence of billiards is significant to depict the lower and upper classes. It is very interesting to use billiards to capture the drama of life from the perspective of twenty-year-olds who are still searching for their identity, with a father who thinks he knows his child's desires," said Salman, met in the Menteng area, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (26/9/2023).

1. Prime Video Chooses the Most Risky One

Salman Aristo doesn't believe that Prime Video is interested in the idea of THE ACES series considering its unusual billiard material. However, among the five ideas offered, they chose the most risky one.

"The story of THE ACES has been sitting in my laptop folder since 2013. Only Prime Video dares to take something that might make other platforms wonder what this is. I pitched five stories and they chose this one. While for me at that time, it was the most risky but they were actually looking for it," said Salman.

2. Falling in Love with Billiards Since High School

The choice of billiards as the main attraction is because Salman Aristo has a personal connection with the sport. Billiards requires tactics that make the brain think but is full of excitement when played.

"Well, why billiards? Because I fell in love with billiards since high school, it used to be my reason for skipping class. And what made me fall in love was the game's calculations, the fun. From there, I dug deeper to see that there are many stories, not just poking balls," said Salman.

THE ACES will be aired for eight episodes starting from December 21, 2023. Directed by Bambang Kuntara Mukti, this series stars Kevin Ardilova, Emir Mahira, and Adhisty Zara.
