Synopsis of The Love Hypothesis Coming in September on Prime Video

Kapanlagi.com - The Love Hypothesis is set to arrive for rom-com lovers through the Prime Video streaming service on September 23, 2026. The film featuring Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman in the lead roles has released its first poster highlighting the theme of "love experiments," in line with its storyline.

This title is based on the popular novel by Ali Hazelwood of the same name. The novel went viral in the BookTok community and stayed on the New York Times Best Seller List for 40 weeks, making it one of the most anticipated adaptations.

In addition to presenting a campus romance story with emotional conflicts relatable to everyday life, The Love Hypothesis also brings together two characters with unique dynamics, opening up space for light yet warm romantic comedy.

1. Storyline: The Beginning of the Pretend Relationship Between Olive and Adam

The main character, Olive Smith (Lili Reinhart), is a PhD candidate who is completely focused on shaping her academic future. That focus is disrupted when she learns that her friend, Anh, has feelings for the guy she has been interested in all along.

To convince Anh that her feelings are over, Olive takes an impulsive step: she kisses Dr. Adam Carlsen (Tom Bateman), the most respected yet feared professor on campus. This sudden action triggers new consequences.

From there, Olive and Adam agree to pretend to be in a relationship. They set clear rules and boundaries, but gradually those boundaries begin to fade. When feelings that were initially just a strategy start to feel real, Olive is faced with an important question: is the love that was once merely a hypothesis now worth fighting for?

2. Behind the Scenes: The Director and Lili Reinhart's Dual Role

The director's chair is occupied by Claire Scanlon, who previously worked on Set It Up. Her portfolio in the romantic comedy realm makes this project land in the hands of someone familiar with the similar genre.

Lili Reinhart has a dual mandate in The Love Hypothesis. In addition to playing Olive Smith, she also acts as an executive producer, contributing more to the creative process of the film.

Her co-star, Tom Bateman, is known for his involvement in two major mystery films, Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile. His presence in this project brings a new blend to the rom-com stage.
