Synopsis 'OVER THE MOON', Going to the Moon to Meet the Moon Goddess

Kapanlagi.com - Netflix seems ready to expand its wings into the world of animation films.This time through OVER THE MOON, the streaming platform tries to compete with Pixar and Dreamworks.After all, OVER THE MOON is not a low-budget animated film like FE@RLESS and LATTE & THE MAGIC WATERSTONE, but a large-scale animated film, on par with Disney.To achieve that, Netflix recruited Glen Keane, a talented artist who has made significant contributions to characters like Ariel, Aladdin, and The Beast.

OVER THE MOON tells the story of Fei Fei who believes in the myth of Chang'e, the Moon Goddess who accidentally drinks a magical potion and gets separated from her partner.Fei Fei believes that Chang'e is still on the Moon, waiting for her true love to come.Until one family gathering, Fei Fei's aunt says that Chang'e is just a mere fantasy.

Unbelieving, with her intelligence, Fei Fei builds her own rocket to prove that Chang'e really exists.But that's not actually what Fei Fei wants to prove. He wants to make his father believe in Chang'e again, believe that true love exists and remember his deceased mother. Fei Fei is afraid that her father will forget the memories with her mother because he already has a girlfriend.

This film will teach many things, especially about love, loss, and moving on. Wrapped in a light story, it is perfect to watch with family.

1. Chang'e Really Exists

Chang'e is not really on the Moon, but the myth of Chang'e really exists in China. Every child who grows up in China surely knows the story of Chang'e and Hou Yi, a couple who had to be separated because Chang'e drank a magical potion, flew to the Moon, and couldn't return. This myth is highly respected by the community to the extent that there is a national celebration dedicated to this myth, which is the mid-autumn festival (because Chang'e went to the Moon on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, which is the full moon and autumn season).

In this festival, there is also a tradition of gazing at the full moon. Many Chinese people believe that the full moon is an expression of hidden longing, inspired by the story of Chang'e longing for Hou Yi on the Moon. They believe that by gazing at the moon together, it can strengthen family relationships.

2. Attracting Famous Stars

Netflix seems to be unsatisfied with the success of THE IRISHMAN and EXTRACTION. Through the animated film OVER THE MOON, they seem to declare 'war' with Disney, Pixar, and DreamWorks. Netflix has not held back, as they have enlisted producers Gennie Rim (DEAR BASKETBALL), Peilin Chou (ABOMINABLE), and Oscar-winning animator Glen Keane (DEAR BASKETBALL).  Netflix is also collaborating with Sony Pictures to produce this film.

This film also features famous stars as voice actors such as Cathy Ang, Ken Jeong, Sandra Oh, and Phllipa Soo.

OVER THE MOON can be enjoyed on the Netflix streaming platform on October 23, 2020.
