Super Junior debuted on November 6, 2015, and now it has been 14 years since they have been entertaining the world of K-Pop music. During this time, the boyband from SM Entertainment has achieved many accomplishments. According to Soompi, here are seven proofs that Super Junior is indeed a true Hallyu star!
Super Junior has several units, one of which is Super Junior-M that focuses on Mandarin music. Suju-M became the first international music group to promote in the Chinese market. They are also the first group to have members from Korea and China.
In 2008, Super Junior won the Favorite Artist Korea award at the MTV Asia Awards. They became the first and last Korean artists to receive this award as the MTV Asia Awards were discontinued after that. This photo shows their appearance on the red carpet.
In 2009, K-Pop had many popular songs, one of which was Sorry Sorry by Super Junior. This song was a huge success both critically and commercially, and its dance also went viral on social media. This was one of the early beginnings of K-Pop becoming global.
In 2013, Super Junior was invited by Oxford's Asian Pacific Association to give a lecture with the theme, 'Super Junior: The Last Man Standing'. Represented by Siwon, Eunhyuk, Kyuhyun, and Kangin, they discussed their success and their opinions on K-Pop.
In 2015, Super Junior won two awards at the 2015 Teen Choice Awards. They took home the Choice International Artist and Choi Fandom awards, two new categories in the event.
In 2018, thanks to the song Lo Siento, Super Junior became the first K-Pop artist to enter Billboard's Latin Song chart.
Super Junior became the first foreign artist to receive the Artist of the Year title at the 2019 KKBOX Music Awards in Taiwan. Congratulations to Super Junior and Happy 14th Anniversary.
