At that school, there was sexual violence against deaf students. Their cases were silenced by the school authorities for years. As a result of this film, the public became angry and expressed criticism, especially regarding the low protection for disabled people.

Eventually, this led to the Korean lawmakers passing a law to improve the protection of children and people with disabilities, named the Dogani Act. Interestingly, Dogani is the Korean title of the film SILENCED.

2. MISS GRANNY

Next, there is MISS GRANNY which also brought significant changes to Hwang Dong Hyuk's career, who previously worked as a social critic in Korea.

This comedy drama, released in 2014, tells the story of a 70-year-old grandmother who finds herself in her 20-year-old body after a photoshoot.

Who would have thought that this film would be a huge success and a box office hit, selling 8.65 million tickets.

3. THE FORTRESS

Last but not least, there is THE FORTRESS which was released in 2017. This film also successfully sold nearly 4 million cinema tickets in Korea. It's no wonder that Hwang Dong Hyuk received prestigious awards for this film.

This historical film is based on the novel titled Namhansanseong by Kim Hoon. THE FORTRESS stars Kim Yoon Seok and Lee Byung Hun as rival advisors to King Injo. Interestingly, Lee Byun Hun also made a cameo appearance in SQUID GAME.
