5 K-Pop Idols Who Switched Agencies to Focus on Acting

There are countless K-Pop idols who have been cast and involved in drama projects. In fact, many of them have successfully achieved high ratings and become everlasting dramas that are fun to watch anytime. Although they were initially popular as idols, many of them later decided to focus on being actors or actresses. Like the 5 K-Pop idols below who have switched agencies to focus on acting. Who are they?

1. Jinyoung

Popular as a member of GOT7 under JYP Entertainment, Jinyoung is also active in starring in a series of popular dramas. It turns out that this 1994-born idol actually started his career in the acting world before joining GOT7. Yup, his acting debut was in DREAM HIGH 2 which starred Kang So Ra and Jinwoon.

He continues to hone his acting skills by starring in many dramas, such as HE IS PSYCHOMETRY and WHEN MY LOVE BLOOMS. Last year, in 2020, Jinyoung officially joined BH Entertainment to focus on the acting world. FYI, BH Entertainment is an agency that represents big names like Lee Byung Hun, Lee Ji Ah, Lee Jin Wook, Han Ji Min, Kim Go Eun, and many more. Wow, can't wait for Jinyoung's comeback in a drama!

2. Bae Suzy

Debut as a member of the girl group Miss A with JYP Entertainment, Bae Suzy is also active in acting in dramas and films, which has made her one of the idols with amazing acting skills. ARCHITECTURE 101, DREAM HIGH, UNCONTROLLABLY FOND, and START UP are some of the titles that prove her acting talent.

After 9 years with JYP, she ended her contract in 2019 and joined Management Soop. Known as one of the prestigious agencies that represent big stars, many famous names have joined it. 3. Choi Sooyoung

Being part of one of the top girl groups in Korea, SNSD or also known as Girl's Generation, surely has been a valuable journey for Sooyoung. In 2017, she decided to end her contract with SM Entertainment and moved to Echo Global Group. Then in 2019, Sooyoung officially joined Saram Entertainment, an agency that manages top stars like Uhm Jung Hwa, Han Ye Ri, Lee Hanee, Lee Je Hoon, and many more.

Sooyoung's acting career can be considered soaring. She has played various roles, from a hardworking tax officer in the drama SQUAD 38, a tough police officer in TELL ME WHAT YOU SAW, and the latest is her role as the CEO of a sports agency in the drama RUN ON.

4. Ok TaecYeon

JYP Entertainment has never failed to produce multi-talented K-Pop idols. Since becoming a member of 2PM, TaecYeon himself has been actively starring in various dramas. The most iconic one is his role in DREAM HIGH alongside Bae Suzy, Kim Soo Hyun, and IU.

5. Krystal

Her captivating visuals have caught attention since she joined f(x) under the management of SM Entertainment. This idol, who is the younger sister of Jessica Jung, has been involved in acting since 2010 with several small roles. She then gained attention after starring in THE HEIRS, one of the star-studded dramas of its time.

Last year in 2020, Krystal decided not to renew her contract with SM Entertainment. She joined H& Entertainment, an agency that includes famous stars such as Kwak Dong Yeon, Son Dam Bi, Han Bo Reum, Son Yi Hyun, and many more. Krystal herself continues to hone her acting skills by starring in various genres of dramas, such as the action genre THE PLAYER and most recently SEARCH, where she plays a soldier.
