On August 16, 2024, Jang Geun Suk uploaded a short video on his YouTube channel, titled, "Hello, this is Jang Geun Suk. There is something I want to share.".
In the short video, which lasts only one minute, Jang Geun Suk explains the reason behind his absence from the entertainment world recently.
Jang Geun Suk candidly stated that he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer almost a year ago.
The actor, known as the Prince of Asia, kept his illness a secret to avoid worrying his fans.
Jang Geun Suk also added that he successfully underwent surgery and recorded a video about his condition two weeks post-surgery.
The 37-year-old actor mentioned that he avoided anything that caused stress for eight days after undergoing surgery.
Currently, Jang Geun Suk has shown signs of improvement and his condition is much better, as he is able to speak.
Closing his video, Jang Geun Suk mentioned that he plans to spend time relaxing on Jeju Island to recover.
