According to a statement from the Academy Museum, Bong Joon Ho's works reflect relevant transnational issues, such as class inequality, social injustice, environmental crises, and political and moral corruption.
Additionally, his films are known for their unique approach that is hard to categorize. "From early short films to the globally acclaimed THE HOST and the Oscar-winning PARASITE, his works combine social critique with stories that are funny, shocking, and deeply reflective," said the Academy Museum representatives.
