All Four aespa Members Use Stage Names When Debuting as K-Pop Idols, Here's the Meaning and Origin

In the radio broadcast, the members of aespa introduced themselves in turn and then explained the meaning behind their stage names. Starting with Winter, whose stage name is inspired by her birth date that coincides with the winter season.

"I was born on January 1st, in the winter season. In our agency, I have a very pure image. That's why my stage name is Winter," said the owner of the birth name Kim Min Jeong.

2. Use Nickname

Unlike Ningning's real name, Ning Yi Zhuo. The Chinese idol's stage name has been attached to her long before debuting with aespa. It turns out, this name comes from her nickname when she was a child.

"I have a different birth name. When I was young, my nickname was 'Ningning', so I use it," said Ningning.

3. Radiating Charm

Meanwhile, Giselle's stage name has an interesting origin. Starting from her appearance as a trainee, the owner of the birth name Uchinaga Eri radiates charm like a European instead of her birth country, Japan.

"When I was still a trainee, I often wore headbands. Our trainer said that I looked like a little English girl. That's how I got an elegant name like 'Giselle'," she said.

4. Given a Choice

Lastly, Karina, the leader, used a stage name derived from her baptismal name. Before deciding to debut with that stage name, Karina was given options for equally beautiful names.

"My baptismal name is 'Katarina,' which is why I became 'Karina.' Other choices included 'Woo Ah' and 'Jasmine,'" said the owner of the birth name Yoo Jimin.
