Already a Fan of the 'KINGDOM' Series Before Being Chosen as Ashin, Turns Out Jun Ji Hyun Was Initially Willing Even Though Just Becoming a Zombie

As known, Jun Ji Hyun has attracted attention since her appearance in the final scene of KINGDOM Season 2. It is revealed that Jun Ji Hyun joined the Kingdom series as Ashin, a Seongjeoyain who lives in the northern region of Joseon on the banks of the Amnok River.

The KINGDOM series itself presents a different phenomenon of zombie resurrection compared to other films and series. As the main cast, Jun Ji Hyun is not afraid of zombies and even has an interesting story related to the actors playing the terrifying creatures during the filming process.

"I'm not afraid at all. Even before we started filming, I was looking forward to meeting the actors who played the zombies. I realized how difficult it was for them to film while dressed as zombies. I even begged to take a photo with them and showed it off to my friends and family," said Jun Ji Hyun during the press conference for KINGDOM: ASHIN OF THE NORTH, on Tuesday (20/7).

After some investigation, it turns out Jun Ji Hyun's interest in zombies is part of her love for this series. Interestingly, this beautiful actress was initially willing to play any small role, including becoming a zombie. Fortunately, Jun Ji Hyun was trusted to portray Ashin, a key character behind all the events in the world of KINGDOM.

"I am a fan of KINGDOM and Kim Eun Hee. Before I became Ashin, I met Kim Eun Hee and told her that I am a big fan and would love to play a zombie or any small role. But she ended up giving me a big role, and it is an honor. I am very grateful to her," said Choi Joon Hyuk's wife.

Jun Ji Hyun felt a sense of pride when entrusted with the lead role in this hit series.

"I am very proud to be able to participate in a series that I love. I can say that there is significant pressure within me. I am also the type of person who always feels stressed, but I try to think positively so that I can give my best. I don't want to just participate and run it because KINGDOM already has a big name, but I also want to give my best for this series," she said.

2. Learning Archery for Character Deepening

Portraying the main character KINGDOM: ASHIN OF THE NORTH turned out to be a new challenge for actress Jun Ji Hyun, especially when delving into the role. She admitted that it left an unforgettable impression during the filming process.

"Because the character Ashin is skilled in archery, I learned a lot about archery. Archery here is not something modern but has existed since ancient times. I was so amazed when I could play a character who uses arrows as a weapon from ancient times," said Jun Ji Hyun.

As a professional actress, Jun Ji Hyun was willing to learn self-defense scenes and archery to further immerse herself in the character of Ashin.

"Basically, I enjoy fitness, so I am capable enough for this role, which helps me a lot. I am very prepared for the action scenes in Ashin. Most importantly, archery is crucial in ASHIN OF THE NORTH." I practiced with a bow and arrow, but Ashin actually doesn't have many action scenes. She eliminates zombies with just one arrow. It's enough for me to always keep my body in shape for her scenes. But for me, it's not too difficult to learn archery," said Jun Ji Hyun.

"I agree, I look so cool with a bow, and the character who has a weapon in her hand. The weapon also plays an important role for my character to appear like a female warrior," she added.
