Bae Suzy Reveals She is Happier with Her Career as an Actress than as a K-Pop Idol

On June 4th, Suzy conducted an interview with Wikitree ahead of the release of her latest film titled WONDERLAND. In this film, Bae Suzy acts alongside Park Bo Gum, portraying a reunion with loved ones through the Wonderland video call service, which brings back the deceased using AI technology.

Bae Suzy herself debuted as a member of the girl group Miss A under JYP Entertainment in 2010. She then began venturing into the acting world through the KBS2 drama DREAM HIGH alongside actor Kim Soo Hyun. In 2017, Miss A disbanded and she continued to pursue a solo career, but leaned more towards acting.

Celebrating its 15th anniversary since its debut, Suzy reflects on activities from her past. "It's funny. When I was a little younger than now, I didn't think I was funny in the past. But now, I find little Suzy to be sweet when I look back," she said.

She laughed and added, "Sometimes my memories feel very vague, so I often ask myself, 'Why was I there?' Maybe because my memories fade, I find my younger self to be funnier," she revealed.

2. Rumors of Unpleasant Incidents as an Idol

Suzy experienced a series of unpleasant incidents when she was still in Miss A. She felt excluded and didn't have a good relationship with the other members. This happened because Bae Suzy's popularity at that time far exceeded that of her Miss A members. This caused jealousy and envy among the other girl group members.

Suzy mentioned that her role in the drama DOONA! was similar to her story back then. "My stomach felt like it was punched when reading the scene in the script. Doona's situation was very similar to mine," she said.

3. Pursuing a Career as an Actress > K-Pop Idol

Suzy also mentioned that her current satisfaction with her life as an actress is much higher compared to when she was an idol. She said, "When I was young, I didn't have free time and the situation was more competitive. At that time, I didn't have the opportunity to reflect on my life or see it from a different perspective. So instead of feeling difficult, I have memories of my struggles because I was young and didn't know what was better." she concluded.
