The controversy surrounding Bang Chan STRAY KIDS stems from a dance video of Childish Gambino's "This Is America" from the past. At the end of the video, Bang Chan imitated the Jim Crow pose, which is a symbol of the racial system that existed in the United States in the 19th century.

According to information from the Jim Crow Museum at Ferris State University, Jim Crow was a character created by white entertainer Thomas Dartmouth Rice. He danced and acted by imitating a slave.
