Yuqi is one of the members who is not from South Korea. She came to South Korea and became a trainee because she passed the audition held by CUBE Entertainment. Yuqi also admitted that she came to South Korea alone without family and friends.

In 2017, Yuqi joined Cube Tree. Besides Minnie, she is also a part of Cube Tree, which is a team consisting of trainees from CUBE Entertainment.

Yuqi is one of the first members introduced to (G)-IDLE. She was announced on April 8, 2018, along with Miyeon.

Yuqi has a unique deep voice, despite having a cute face and figure. Her voice is heavy and different from her appearance.

In addition to singing and dancing, she is also skilled in playing the traditional Chinese instrument, Guzheng.

Yuqi has attended a prestigious school in China, Beijing 101 High School. During her time there, she was also the leader of the Street Dance Club community.

Prior to her debut, Yuqi has also worked as a model for several advertisements and promotions. One of them was in 2017 when Yuqi became a promotional model for Rising Star Cosmetics alongside Minnie and Shuhua.

During the audition held by CUBE Entertainment, Yuqi sang the song High Heels by CLC, which is also a girl group under CUBE Entertainment.
