The 42nd annual Blue Dragon Film Awards revealed a series of nominations on Monday, November 1, 2021. ESCAPE FROM MOGADISHU directed by Ryoo Seung-wan became the most nominated film.

Out of 10 nominations, Best Film and Best Director are the 2 categories that ESCAPE FROM MOGADISHU successfully captured.

Based on a true story, ESCAPE FROM MOGADISHU tells the story of South and North Korean embassy workers who are stranded and work together to escape from Somalia during the civil war in 1991.

"The quality action and tension created by ESCAPE FROM MOGADISHU successfully satisfy the audience. Moreover, Ryoo Seung-wan combines the dramatic story of two countries, South Korea and North Korea," explained the Korean Film Council, regarding the reason behind the film being selected as this year's Korean Oscar entry.

Actor Kim Yoon-seok and Jo In-sung are nominated for Best Actor, while Koo Kyo-hwan is nominated for Best Supporting Actor. This film was also recently selected to compete for Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards.

Following ESCAPE FROM MOGADISHU is the film THE BOOK OF FISH by director Lee Joon-ik, which received 9 nominations. From Best Picture, Best Director, Best Editing, to Best Actor for Seol Kyung-gu and Byun Yo-han.
