[Featured Content] San ATEEZ's Struggle to Become the First Idol from Namhae and Appointed as Hometown Ambassador

1. San Loves to Sing

Since he was a child, San has loved singing. Because his parents were busy working, San would often visit his grandparents' house after school. There, he would entertain his grandparents by singing.

Knowing that his grandson likes and has a talent for singing, San's blind grandfather bought him a karaoke machine. San became more diligent in singing because of it.

2. San and His Dream

San's journey as an idol began when he felt no interest in taking lessons on high school subjects. Afraid that his father's money would go to waste because he didn't like studying, San said that he wanted to become a singer.

San's father, who was a taekwondo coach in Namhae, was surprised and asked his son to think carefully. But his father also wanted his son to be sure about what San's true desire was and really become a passion that made his heart beat.

San was sure about his desire to become a singer. Considering his age, which could be considered not young to become a trainee, San said he wanted to study in Seoul. His father finally took San and even entrusted him to his acquaintance. From Namhae High School, San moved to Art High School in Korea for his second year.

San's parents' struggle for their son was also shown by his mother. For San, his mother was willing to travel back and forth between Seoul and Namhae every week for about two and a half years.

3. San Receives a Lot of Support

While in Seoul, San learned a lot from composer and songwriter Kim Hyuna. His teacher said that San had potential, as long as he didn't give up, he could become what he wanted.

CEO of KQ Entertainment, Kim Kyuwook, also often encouraged and took care of San like his own child. San was said to be flooded with love and praise from his current agency CEO.

4. Success of San and ATEEZ

San finally debuted with seven other members in ATEEZ in 2018. They officially debuted on October 28, 2018 with the mini album TREASURE EP.1: ALL TO ZERO' with the title tracks Pirate King and Treasure.

In 2022, ATEEZ became one of the boy bands whose album sales reached one million copies with THE WORLD EP. 1 : MOVEMENT. ATEEZ's world tour concerts are always sold out and San and his group always receive praise from K-Pop fans.

5. San Becomes Namhae Ambassador

As mentioned earlier, San comes from Namhae, a county or island located in South Gyeongsang Province. And San is the first K-Pop idol from Namhae. He is very proud of that.

In 2021, San was appointed by the local government as the ambassador or promotional envoy of Namhae. An area in Korea known for its beautiful sea views and other natural attractions.

"I feel very honored and proud to be chosen as the ambassador of Namhae, my hometown, where I was born and raised. Now that I have been officially selected, I will do my best. I feel a responsibility and will promote Namhae with all my heart," said San on this occasion.
