"The special area commonly referred to as the special care zone is Daegu. Therefore, now I am at the Aju Post together with the team from the Indonesian Embassy in a village that is approximately 53 KM away from the city of Daegu. We are here so that we can quickly help our friends from Indonesia who are in Daegu," said Umar Hadi.
One of the efforts of the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul to be closer to Indonesian citizens in Daegu, the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul established the Aju Post in the village of Euiseonggun, which is 53 KM or about 45 minutes away from the city of Daegu. "In the city of Daegu, we have 1304 of our citizens. Mostly in Gyeonggi Province. If Seoul is like Jakarta, the Province is like West Java. In Gyeonggi, the area is vast, there are around 8000 Indonesian citizens. In Seoul, there are around 1200. Because most of our citizens here are workers, mostly working in factories. The factories are not located in the city, but on the outskirts of the city," he explained. To be closer to Indonesian citizens in Daegu, the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul established the Aju Post located 53 km or about 45 minutes from the city center of Daegu. "The Indonesian Embassy has coordinated with the local government, and the village is considered a safe zone. Mr. Umar Hadi also showed the Aju post that has been opened by the Indonesian Embassy in that area," he continued.
As reported from the Instagram account @kbri_seoul, the task of the Aju Team at the Post is to coordinate with local authorities and government officials as well as groups of Indonesian citizens in Daegu. The Indonesian Embassy will also actively monitor developments and prepare necessary steps while urging the public to remain calm and vigilant.
"Survival kits and masks have also been prepared and sent from Seoul. There are about 1,700 masks available. The Indonesian Embassy has also distributed about 11 thousand masks to Indonesian citizens in South Korea. The Indonesian Embassy in Seoul will also receive a number of masks, namely 13 thousand masks tomorrow, while 15 thousand masks the day after tomorrow," he explained.
Umar Hadi expressed his gratitude to Indonesian citizens who have shown sympathy for Indonesian citizens in South Korea. Masks are one of the most needed items at the moment. The Ambassador explained that masks can be donated through the Directorate of Indonesian Citizen Protection.
"I also express my gratitude for the sympathy of Indonesian friends in South Korea. Indonesian people in South Korea number more than 37 thousand. Most of them are our friends who work in factories in Korea, on Korean fishing boats, and there are also students here, about 1,500 to 2,000 people. So, the first thing they need is prayers and sympathy. But what is most needed now is masks. As for other things, food and medicine, they are still available in South Korea. If you want to help by sending masks, you can do so through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Directorate of Indonesian Citizen Protection. You can do it through there," he explained.
