Jeon Somi Candidly Reveals Her Reasons for Leaving JYP Entertainment, Not a Single Regret

All thanks to her choice to leave JYP Entertainment and firmly decide to join THE BLACK LABEL, a subsidiary of YG Entertainment. In this new company, Jeon Somi seems to have found what she has been looking for all this time.

She successfully debuted after a long absence following the disbandment of I.O.I. Interestingly, in a recent interview on the show Turkids On The Block, Somi candidly revealed why she decided to leave JYP Entertainment at that time. What did she say?

1. Famous through 'SIXTEEN' and 'Produce 101 Season 1'

Somi's popularity first gained through the show SIXTEEN. The show successfully debuted TWICE. Unfortunately, Somi failed to make the debut lineup.

Later, Somi participated in another reality show called Produce 101 Season 1. In this show, she successfully ranked first, making her debut as the center of a group called I.O.I in 2016.

2. Expected to Debut Together with ITZY Members

After I.O.I disbanded, Somi was expected to debut in a permanent group with Ryujin and Chaeryeong. Previously, Ryujin was one of the participants in a survival show called MIXNINE, and Chaeryeong was Somi's fellow member from SIXTEEN.

Even at that time, the information that Somi would become one of the new members of JYP Entertainment's girl group became stronger, after her pre-debut moment with Chaeryeong spread when they attended a public event. Ironically, ITZY debuted without Somi in 2019.

3. Somi Leaves JYP Entertainment

In 2018, Somi shocked the public when she decided to leave JYP Entertainment. The news became even more sensational as she moved to YG Entertainment through its subsidiary, THE BLACK Label.

"After I.O.I disbanded, I was not active in the entertainment industry for a long time. From there, I finally decided to move to YG," Somi revealed on the show Turkids On The Block.

4. Decides to Debut as a Solo Singer

At THE BLACK LABEL, Somi then decided to debut as a solo singer instead of debuting in a group. One of the reasons is that THE BLACK LABEL did not have any other trainees at that time besides Somi.

"When I moved to a new agency, I was the only trainee there. So, naturally, I decided to debut solo," Somi added.

5. Never Regret Leaving JYP Entertainment

When Lee Young Jin, the host of the program Turkids On The Block, asked if Somi regretted leaving JYP Entertainment, she firmly replied, "Not at all."

The host then asked Somi more specifically, "Are there any things you don't like about your new agency now? Are you 100% satisfied?"

"I really like my agency now, I'm 100% satisfied," Somi answered without hesitation.

The conversation became more interesting when Lee Young Jin mentioned Somi's income and how she is treated by THE BLACK LABEL.

"As a solo singer and songwriter, I feel happy with the income I receive. The people are also cooperative, I can work to the maximum with them. So, there are no problems with these two things," Somi revealed.
