Jung Ilhoon Pleads for Leniency After Being Sentenced to 2 Years in Prison for Marijuana Case

Kapanlagi.com - Former BTOB member, Jung Ilhoon, pleaded for leniency after being sentenced to 2 years in prison for a marijuana case. The second trial of Ilhoon took place at the Seoul High Court on Thursday (18/11/2021).

The prosecutor demanded a 2-year prison sentence and a fine of 126.6 million Won or about 1.5 billion Rupiah against Ilhoon.

Previously, he underwent a trial for allegedly buying and smoking 826 grams of marijuana worth around 130 million Won in 161 cases between July 5, 2016, and January 9, 2019, along with seven other defendants. In his first trial, he was sentenced to 2 years in prison and a fine of 133 million Won, so he appealed against the sentence.

In this second trial, Ilhoon shed tears while reading a statement he had prepared beforehand. "I want to take this opportunity to let you know that I deeply reflect on my mistakes. I deeply regret my foolish actions and feel ashamed of myself," he said.

"The time I spent in detention center was a deep reflection on the big and small mistakes I have made in my life. The meetings were limited due to the COVID-19 situation, so I exchanged letters with my family and felt their boundless love. I really miss the everyday life that I used to enjoy," he added.

Ilhoon also stated that he fully understands how drugs can ruin his life. "I fully understand how drugs can destroy my life and the terrible damage they cause to society. I firmly promise to my acquaintances and honorable judges that from now on, I will never betray the hearts of my beloved family and the people who trust me, and I will live a worthy and honest life." "I am truly guilty, I apologize," said Ilhoon during the trial.

Meanwhile, Ilhoon's lawyer stated that in his case, there were more than two boxes of petitions sent by his foreign fans to support Ilhoon.

"There were more than two boxes of petitions sent by his foreign fans. There are reasons for him to return to society and he has the ability to promote. They are still young where they need to nurture their dreams, so it is believed that they will play an important role in society," explained the lawyer.

It is said that Jung Ilhoon has submitted 87 statements of regret since the appeal trial began. It was previously known that he registered as a public service worker in May 2020 and left BTOB in December 2020.
