ROMANTICS ANONYMOUS tells the story of two adults who both love chocolate and work in a small chocolaterie.
However, both face serious social anxiety: the man struggles to touch others due to trauma, while the woman finds it hard to make eye contact because of excessive shyness and nervousness.
Shun Oguri plays Sosuke (the owner/manager of the chocolate shop) and Han Hyo Joo plays Lee Hana (a genius chocolatier who is shy). Supporting cast in this drama includes Yuri Nakamura and Jin Akanishi.
This drama is an adaptation of the French film LES EMOTIFS ANONYMES (2010), which raises a similar theme about the awkwardness of love and social anxiety disorders, with a rom-com touch and a culinary (chocolate) vibe.
Netflix confirms that ROMANTIC ANONYMOUS is an original Japanese project for their platform, which is planned to be globally released on Netflix in October 2025.
Before the streaming release, the first two episodes are selected to premiere at the On Screen section of the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in September 2025.
