The Korean drama 'THE FORBIDDEN MARRIAGE' tells the story of a Joseon King named Lee Heon. This Joseon King has not remarried after being heartbroken by the death of his beloved wife 7 years ago.

The entire kingdom is no longer able to help King Joseon, who is reluctant to remarry, as King Joseon also does not have an heir to succeed the throne.
The kingdom finally issues a decree called geumhonryung, which states that as long as King Joseon remains unmarried, all single women in the kingdom are prohibited from getting married.

Fate brings King Joseon together with an ordinary woman named Ye So Rang, who is skilled in deceiving others. Ye So Rang pretends to be possessed by the deceased queen and is able to convince all the members of the kingdom with her lies. However, she cannot continue lying forever and eventually gets caught up in a more complicated conflict.
