Xiumin EXO officially debuted as a solo singer on Monday (26/9/2022) with the album BRAND NEW and the lead song of the same title. Before the official release of his song, Xiumin held a press conference with the youngest member of EXO, Sehun, as the MC. Here are some things discussed by Xiumin (and also Sehun) at the press conference for Brand New.

Xiumin admitted that he is excited to finally debut solo after 10 years in the K-Pop industry. Just like the title of his album, he also wants to show his new side as a singer.

Xiumin said that this mini album is a gift for EXO-L. After a long hiatus due to mandatory military service, and other EXO members also serving in the military, he finally decided to make this album to be able to meet his fans soon. In the music video, there is a scene where Xiumin is the gift presenter, but in other scenes, he himself becomes the gift.

Xiumin feels responsible for this album because it is the first time he has worked alone, without the other 8 members of EXO. He used to admire the other EXO members who debuted solo before him. He hopes that if EXO reunites in the future, he can help because he now has experience in making a solo album.

Xiumin also talked about the 'color' for this album. If EXO is associated with silver, EXO-CBX has blue, green, and blue as their colors; then the BRAND NEW album is orange. This orange color is very eye-catching and can make people have an appetite.

Xiumin also mentioned that the EXO members asked him to do whatever he likes for this solo album, to enjoy the process and have fun with the fans.

Sehun also apparently came to the location of Xiumin's MV shoot and said that he really likes the song. Sehun then asked Xiumin to do well without feeling burdened.

Not only that, Xiumin also mentioned that he almost asked Sehun to fill in the rap part in the song How We Do. Xiumin likes that song but lacks confidence in his rap skills. Unfortunately, Sehun was busy filming at that time, so Xiumin ended up asking Mark from NCT. The two of them previously collaborated on the song Young And Free. Xiumin is also proud of Mark, who is now more successful
